I agree with most of what marcosknux said.

You might want to consider Gruul Turf instead of Kazandu Refuge. Both come into play tapped. Both sacrifice tempo for mana options. Gruul Turf just gets you more mana. This is especially useful if you have a card that untaps a land (as opposed to a basic land or a forest etc). You have such a card in Voyaging Satyr.

Its always tricky to plan land types when your mana ramp is one color and your heaviest mana requirement is a different color. That's what makes Fertile Ground so good.

I also agree that "mana dorks" as marcosknux called them, tend to be chancier than enchantments on lands.

With that in mind I would consider a land distribution with a couple more forests to try to get a relatively consistent 1st turn forest.

I am partial to Slumbering Dragon and would up that to 4. I would ditch the Llanowar Elves and Arbor Elf to increase Fertile Ground and Utopia Sprawl to 4 apiece.

Dragon Broodmother works very well with both Scourge of Valkas and Utvara Hellkite. Good Thinking there.

I would beef up the number of Dragons you have with lesser mana cost dragon (dragon hatchling, dragon egg, dragon whelp, etc.). Maybe take out Krosan Droser and Abundant Growth for the room.

Bogarden Hellkite is sweet, but is also 8 mana. Its a heckuva surprise with its flash ability, but an expensive one.

Don't forget that changelings can act as dragons too. Taurean Mauler is a beast...grows in similar fashion to Slumbering Dragon.

I would also try to get down to 60 cards.

This deck is an interesting start! I'm psyched to see how it develops!
Hope this helped.

haha! maybe you're right about rubbing off. I intend the excelsior as a reference to Stan Lee's trademark sign off from letters in Marvel comics meaning "onward and upward".

As for egads, it either comes from "Singin in the Rain" or KnightoftheHokeyPokey.

so true!
I know as an academic pursuit some of these decks are clever and effective, but for actual gameplay against friends, I find lockdown combos somehow unsporting.

No worries!
Glad I could help!
Play it through a couple of times or work through some draws.
Maybe something like Pyroclasm (or the modern variant) could help clear out early weenies.

Slumbering Dragon is an amazing deterrent. It never stops growing, even after it "wakes up". It just gets more and more pissed off.

Its a very clever concept! The direct damage from Scourge of Valkas multiplied. I like it! I really like it!

Ok. compliments out of the way.... If you permit a couple of opinions.

Archwing Dragon works against your concept. He isn't applying to your dragon count when it matters to Scourge of Valkas. For 4 cmc you could have Rakdos Pit Dragon. Much more dangerous and it stays on the board.

I would consider scrapping black altogether. Heartless Summoning is an interesting card, but -1/-1 to ALL your creatures IMHO is stinky. Its a trade off. The speed you gain from the enchantment it offset by potential mana woes and weaker creature. In its place I would add 3 Dragon Hatchlings.

Having said that, I recognize that the real damage is direct, but you have hasted tokens; you might as well use them to bludgeon opponent about the head and shoulders.

You have 4 forests and Utopia Sprawl. Might b tough to get those two together. Low percentage of hitting that early on. Maybe consider ditching Utopia Sprawl, adding a 4th fertile ground and using the remaining two slots for Dragon Broodmother. DB gives you dragon tokens which apply to the SoV count.

Your early game looks good. The deck is a fantastic idea! Makes me want to play Dragons again!

Hope this helps :)

Right you are! My misutterance. Together with some unblockables, they could be dangerous.

Jessie, you are so right about Thalakos Seer! That card is great, especially in concert with Ninja of the Deep Hours!
I have a deck I play in real life that uses that combo. Just a fun means of card draw. Here's the link to Shinza's Ninjas. I should update it a little.

Propaganda looks like a blue version of a white enchantment from Kamigawa....Ghostly Prison maybe? Name escapes me.

Good card! Run both in Azorius deck and lock it down.

hahaha! true! Its not quite up to the inappropriate-ness of hooded figures with axes on a prejudice card, but the card is good! hmm... maybe in the azorius deck... which is tough.

Van, I checked it out and left comments.

KotHP, I've started on the Azorius deck I promised.

In the meantime, here's a mono-blue to tide you over. No, its not merfolk, despite the obvious tide reference.

I second the vote for Slumbering Dragon.

You have Green in there for ramp, so how about Dragon Broodmother?

Hellkite Tyrant could be interesting. Its designed very well with trample synergy with its steal effect.

I prefer Scourge of Valkas or Hunted Dragon to Tarox Bladewing if you want to keep same mana cost. Scourge Of Valkas has good synergy with Dragon Broodmother. Thundermaw Hellkite is straight up better. Its a bad-ass that clears its own path for beatdown.

Mana-Charged Dragon is good too. Same stats as Shivan Dragon of yesteryear and it likely your opponent won't pay into its pump, but the hidden beauty of it is that you can use your forests to pump it up too...oh wait, this is modern...hmm... disregard.

Moonveil dragon is sweet. Pump one to pump them all.

Two-Headed Dragon has never worked for me. Maybe if it had first strike. I'd consider trading it out for Shivan Hellkite or Hellkite Charger. Both rule. Actually, thinking a little outside the box, maybe Steel Hellkite? Its still a dragon and it is amazing for getting rid of enchantments (which red has difficulty doing). Its almost unfair how good that card is...and its same cmc as Two-Headed dragon.

Your deck is a good start! I have always wanted to see a really good dragon deck. Your's has the potential!

Hope this helps! Check out my decks sometime. My dream is to make it to the hot list. :)
