The problem with the sorcery spells you suggested is that aside from search for tomorrow, they all cost 2-3 mana. Search has suspend, but it takes a few turns to get rolling, which only hurts me.As for the cycle creatures, I don't mind the ability and its contribution to threshold. I'd most likely go with greater sandwurm because of the theme, but finding space for it is tough.

I honestly forgot that heartstone wasn't modern legal. I was probably going to replace it anyways since I never seem to draw the thing. As for adding another color, I debated it already but don't want to drop a ton of money on land for a casual theme deck like this
Swapped out Emeria, Karoo, and Dormant Volcano for Sol Ring and an additional mountain and plains. Don't have rugged prairie just yet, but eventually

Also decided to swap out Emeria, the Sky Ruin for Rugged Prairie. Don't have enough plains to get the trigger so it's pointless to keep it.
Debating finding a slot for Warcry Phoenix and DEFINITELY finding a slot for Helm of the Host in here. Might drop Hall of Triumph for the Helm, but dunno what I'd replace with the Phoenix just yet.

Having seen that one of the few cards I REALLY wanted to put in here was one of each of the two Recruiter creatures, I'm making a spot for them both. Since this isn't my deck idea, I didn't include it because of card price. Obliterater is very pricey, and while I did recommend it, he didn't want it
Devotion is vastly underestimated honestly. It could be an effective strategy, and definitely look into cheap enchantments to help boost it. I say go for it

I've always wanted to make a deck that uses one of the epic spells, but could never pick which one or a deck to build around one
Color specific City of Traitors without the drawback of losing it when you play another land. I like it. And this also now tells me what I need to be doing to capitalize on this idea. It's gonna be dope!
All I took away from that is that it turns shock lands into beta lands. Let that sink in a bit...and now OFF TO THE RACES!
If you want to go the aura route, you might look into heroic from the theros block. There are a lot of great cards that take advantage of auras on the field, and there are a ton of great auras to pick from. Unfortunately, most of the cards I want to recommend are white, but I think red green is a great combo
