Okay guys. First match of tournament is over. Around 2 hours and 8 pieces of paper later...I have Merfolk vs Beast game over.Beast came out very strong with 2 Kalonian Tuskers, one with Rancor. Merfolk were quickly down to 10 life by Turn 4. However, by turn 5 Merfolks had Lord of Atlantis, True-Name Nemesis, and Merfolk Sovereign on the board AND Impulse, Counterspell, and MIsdirection in hand. It was game over when the Merfolk deck played Counterspell on the Beast deck followed my a Misdirected Rancor put onto True-Name Nemesis. A 7/4 Nemesis meant game over.Turn 6. Merfolk 10 life. Beast 0 life.Merfolk are 1-0Beast are 0-1P.S. Great job at suggestion Misdirection, Puschkin! It went a long way in ensuring Merfolk's victory.

Yeah, yeah. You knew what i meant!
And I might sideboard Shattering Spree. 1 mana to kill an artifact rocks!! Big time.
That is why I said "one day."At 10 dollars a piece...ouch, you know?
I mean, if you aren't running fatty Goblins like Siege and Krenko...Lackey really isn't necessary. One day I will own 4 copies of Goblin Lackey!!!
http://www.mtgvault.com/jessie/decks/1-mana-goblins/Okay. Here is my attempt at this fun. A goblin deck with only 1 mana cards. Probably the only Goblin Deck in the history of the world where Goblin Lackey isn't an absolutely needed card.
Tell you this much, I am giving you a plus 1 on this deck because you found a way to draw cards (which can not be underestimated in a deck with only cards costing 1 mana) using red and white cards/mana. Infiltration Lens. Very nice. Not really digging the Ethereal Armor...not sure why.
No x spells. It makes it more challenging I will give Kazzong credit for that. And will also agree that this is a fun concept. And a great idea to play against a local friend! 1 mana deck against another 1 mana deck.
I asked the x spell question several times...sorry. As i said, been uber busy lately.I am being the devil's advocate. I totally agree with you Kazzong. If an x spell cost more than 1 mana...then it is not a 1 mana spell...but TECHNICALLY (lol) Banefire is considered a one mana card. I don't think it should be...and i guess cards like Green sun zenith are why Mtg considers Banefire a one mana card.It is confusing :) But fun! Regardless, establishing the rules set in place, i would like to make a red one.
A white human weenie deck would rock. Mother of Runes. Serra Ascendant. Parish of the Champion. Spirit Link. Orim's Chant. So many good cards. Good luck on finishing it!
I like Gitaxian Probe too. It absolutely rocks. Since you pay 2 life, spend no mana, and draw a card...it pretty much is like running 56 cards in your deck instead of 60, if you run 4 of them, right? It takes the old school cycling mechanic to an entirely different level. That is how I look at it.
What about x spells. Like Banefire. It is considered a one mana card. http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Search/Default.aspx?action=advanced&cmc=+=[1]&rating=+%3E[4]&color=+[R]
Yep, this is neat. And looks like it could be decent considering the mana restrictions. As posted, if i were to try to do a cmc 1 deck, i would probably do red too. What about Pyrite Spellbomb for drawing power? And Smelt...1 drop artifact hate is awesome. Might would consider that. Overall, i gave it +1. The fact that you did not add something expensive like Chain Lightning...will give you props there, too.
And do stuff like Mutagenic Growth and Gitaxian Probe count?
A question, does x spells count?
Interesting. Does the deck have to have a major theme? I am not caught up with Azorius or Golgari. With every card costing one mana...it would take major skills to not top deck immediately, right? Maybe i am wrong on that. A lot of one card drops that could be pumped up using mana? And mana ramp would be non-existent. And, been really busy of late (not looked at any of the decks), but i would also assume people would be running less than 20 lands in the deck. And you know the next challenge has to be to try and make a winning deck with no mana cost. Right? Like kobolds, memnite, phyrexian walker, chromes, lotus', shield sphere. Or the other extreme...try to make a winning deck with heavy costing mana...like a deck with nothing but 4 or 5 mana cards. Almost would be impossible considering you could not play a single card until turn 4 or 5. Finally...just thinking about it for a few minutes...seems like a Red burn deck would be one of the better 1 mana decks. Vexing Devil. Spark Elemental. Lightning Bolt. Chain Lightning. Shock. Assault. Pyrite Spellbomb. Brute Force.Crown of Flames. Firebolt. Grim Lavamancer would be awesome. Lava Spike. Overmaster. Reckless charge. Reckless abandon. Seal of fire. Tarfire. Plus...all the one drop Goblins.
Example...for my tournament. The beast deck and the thopter deck are both under 40 dollars. But do you think they hold a handle in comparison to the Faerie deck or the Merfolk deck? Both of which are over 250 dollars.
And i think Magic realized what went wrong...and tried to weaken the cards with stuff like Invansion. Nemesis. Prophecy....but...of the last few years..it has went back to Jace, Dark Confidant, and other 50-100 dollar cards...that are wayyyy too powerful. When you need 1000 dollars for one deck in a game that is meant for fun...Mythical rares like Pokemon? Changing what is Standard so damn fast...it is, a lot now, all about the money. And that is sad.
The high point of Magic...in my point...was around the time that the creator left. Richard Garfield. He just created a fun game. But when Urza came out...and people started playing so many broken cards like Academy and Memory Jar...that was when Magic went from a game to a way for people to win tourneys/money. When Magic became a career for some people...maybe that was the low point. I think Garfield realized what Magic was about to come, and walked away.
Is this a 5 color deck? You sir, are brave! I commend you. :)
