I was lucky enough to pick-up dark depths for about $5 a piece just before Hxmage was printed. What I tend to do with depth's is run a vampire deck with Depths in it for a second win condition, keeps it mono black and aggressive. I won an extended tourny with it... don't quite remember it all, bt everything was low casting. Hee's something like it: 4 Dark Depths 4 Urborg, Tomb of Yagmoth 14 Swamp 4 Vampire Lacerator 4 Vampire Hexmage 4 Dark Ritual 3 Vampire Nocturnus 4 Vampire Nighthawk 4 Unholy Strength 4 Bloodghast 4 Feast of Blood 4 Lotus Petal 3 Diabolic Intent Everything can be cast by turn 1 or 2 with dark ritual and Lotus Petal in the mix. Bloodghast is perfect for Diabolic Intent... I managed to win the last match-up by casting dark ritual turn one into a Vampire Lacerator with 2 Unholy Strength's on it. A 6/4 on turn 1 is pretty amazing.

Sorry, somehow I missed the "Legacy" part... my bad on the Tutor's. Blood Pet is a good mana excelerator and combined with Diabolic Intent, you can either have a tutor or mana ramp. Both should be cheap too. The most common deck though for Dark Depths runs blue as well and the main cards are: 4 Dark Depths 4 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth 4 Vampire Hexmage 2-4 Thopter Foundry 2-4 Sword of the Meek Then add various control cards... Thoughtseize (or Despise) and the like...
Well Mycosynth Lattice makes land and anything else you want an available target for Splinter.
Hey WnB and SwN, if you guys could check out my Blue Ballin' deck... I mae it for an in-house tourny coming up. Everyone chose a block to use for making their deck. Each deck is allowed 4 cards from any core set, Alpha-M12, and since i've won all of the tourney's up until this point, i got last pick. I'm left with Ravnica and Time Spiral for Viable options. If Blue Ballin' looks bad or if you have a better rout i could take, let me know... keep in mind i'm short on cash at the moment and i can spare maybe $30 tops to add cards that i don't have.
Well before I suggest stuff for you sideboard, the maindeck still needs tweeks to work properly. Peat bog enters the battlefield tapped... drop it. It's bad. Unless on turn 1 you cast dark ritual into a rhystic tutor... most people i know will pay the 2 to keep it from tutoring, so in this case keep two and add 1 Vampiric Tutor and 1 Demonic Tutor. Nighthaze is bad too... with only Vampire Hexmage and Marit Lage (hopefully) you have VERY FEW creatures to target Nighthaze with; which leaves you having to target an opponents creature, and you don't wanna give them free damage. I'd go with Sign in Blood for card drawing. Let's face it... four tutors is good, but 4 Beseech the Queen is overkill, drop them and add four Dark Confidant's (Bob) because everything in your deck is very low casting cost and instead of Spellskite, add 4 Death's Shadow for the off-chance that that the stop your early advances and you hurt yourself a bit too much. Definitely sideboard the Spellskite for added protection though and try them out over Death's Shadow and what-not... trial and error works best. If you can, i'd get your hands on 4 Watery Grave'ss or if you're really lucky, get 4 Underground Sea and replace Peat Bog with those so you can avoid hurting yourself with Mental Misstep and Spellskite if at all possible.
Not legal what-so-ever... but fun for casual though i suppose...
Ha, I've never looked at this deck or commented on it. Only thing I'd do different is run 4 entombs over the swipes and 4 Animate Dead's over the Unearth's and instead of Mortician Beetle I'd run It That Betray's, Turn 1 you could potentially use dark ritual into entomb, put It that betray's into graveyard and grab it with Animate dead...
HAhaHAha! Come on... really?! I gots to do it against your elves and then you can use your elves to produce mana after... right?
If Jester's Cap wasn't so slow, I'd run it in here just for fun!
Haha, yeah, that looks about right...
Ha ha, maybe... Just maybe... I have a lot of fun removing all lands from a mono deck. The look on their faces is priceless.
I've known about it for about a two and a half years or so. Needless to say... I found out the hard way. With the addition of Surgical Extraction and Sadistic Sacrament in the last year I've been pushed towards using it all in a mean way. So why not add smallpox and sinkhole to the mix for added insult.
This deck is way too overburdened with having to have hexmage and depths... Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth would be better than Peat Bog, it'll alow you to tap depths for mana and drop hexmage on turn two and activate the depths.
Yeah, Unmake does kind of of look weird. Although Kithkin in general looked odd through the entire block with their squarish shaped heads. The cavalier does have a lot of detail granted, but it's such a good card... but I understand your reasons good sir... Souls of the Faultless FTW though...
I'm surprised you're not running Stillmoon Cavalier's over the Tidehollow Sculler and no Unmake's are anywhere to be seen... Sad face :( I also find Souls of the Faultless to be a great defender who adds control like Royal Assassin used to...
Vampiric Tutor, Demonic Tutor, Diabolic Intent, and Planar Portal... are all great for EDH
I'd run Arbor Elves over Llanowar elves only because you're running three colors here or maybe drop the Jorga Treespeakers instead and add the Arbors Elves, it'll provide mana quicker that way. Myr Turbine seems really out of place in this deck and i think Aether Adept would be a better fit with Venser. Also, with Venser in mind, why not run Tezzeret's Gambit over Beast Within for card drawing and proliferate to get counters on venser faster. Cause after his you use his ultimate ability, you can remove any permanent. Sideboard the Beast Within though in case you need them for faster match-ups. Cancel is great, but with Venser in there, adding counters faster is good, so maybe Fuel for the Cause. As for speeding up the deck, i believe Arbor elves is your solution... for a quick fix that is. Try them out!
Sounds good, didn't mean to make you angry or anything. And i was just looking at it and it seemed rather hard to cast Mishra. Don't take too much offensive my man. This a site without keeping them private so others may offer better options or point obvious flaws you may overlook. It's helped me with my deck building and i've been playing since '94/'95
Jace, Memory Adapt will be so much of a better fit when it comes out, but unfortunately until it gets reprinted, it's gonna cost an ass ton to get i'm sure.
Seriously... everytime I see Angus Mackenzie I laugh and end up having to watch Monty Python's Holy Grail all over again... Some call me... Tim.
