Swords is awesome, always has been, but with only 1 creature in my deck, Wrath and DoJ usually does the job better than Swords for me. Besides, why remove one when you can destroy all? Granted CMC is 4 to 1, but i have counters and other delaying properties.
Aggro Elves possibly with Glistner Elf, but most likely combo elves. If it's aggro elves i got the maze of iths instead of fetch lands, and 3 wall of denial instead of the wrath's and day of judgement
Hmm, posted back in June of 2011, and he hasn't logged on since November... i think it may be a while until he notices this has sky-rocketed to the front page.
If you played with Seat of the Synod, Mox Opal, Mox Diamond, Chrome Mox, or any 0 CMC artifact booster, you should be able to drop Colossus on turn 1...
Since blue doesn't pop up much in your deck, drop 2 islands, and 1 of each other basic land and toss in 4 Thran Quarry's. Most of your deck is creatures, so unless they blast you with a board cleaner, you'll have those lands out for a while. As for the suggestion of Dragon Arch... it's nice, but Urza's Filter is fun too. Maybe mix and match
I noticed this is a standard deck and i like how you could technically win without Laboratory Maniac... But why not run Skaab Ruinator or Unburial Rites?
If this is a specific format formulated deck then nevermind the following... I've played rainbow decks a lot and I find Reflecting Pool, Vesuva, and Thran Quarry, to be the best choice for lands. Pillar of the Paruns is good if everything is multicolored. Glimmervoid is another viable option too if you have the artifacts to back it up. Most of these lands are under $10 last time i looked (which was a few months ago), except for Reflecting Pool. If you play multiplayer usually, than Exotic Orchard is another good choice for a land too. This should fix your mana problems for the most part. I agree with you earlier statement of Maelstrom Archangel... her ability is amazing. Knight of New Alara is great with her and Fusion Elementals.
I'd drop the 2 Vault Skirge and 2 Vengeful Pharaoh for 4 Dark Confidant. And if this is casual, I'd suggest droping the 2 smallpox and despise for 4 Hymn to Tourach for more control. With 4 go for the throat, 3 gatekeepers, and the the power of the obliterator's static ability, there is plenty of removal. So i would definitely turn up the card advantage aspect and discarding control aspect. I'd also drop the two Liliana and favor 2 more thoughtseize.
Consistant damage dealer... if they managed to counter nether void, or manage to kill the obliterator or specter, the Underworld Dreams will still keep pecking at them...
I suggest adding Bump in the Night to make sure you can hit your opponent for 3 and sac hexmage for a celestial convergence win... I'd swap Mourning Thrull for Stillmoon Cavalier if you got them or can get them. I'd drop the two Consume Spirit's as well and add two more Unmakes. With such quick win conditions, you don't need to worry about your life total and it's way too slow for creature removal. Obviously if you can get your hands on 2 more Dark Depth it'll help your chances of getting to them and you could drop two tutors that way... Also, if this deck is all built around waiting for the winning combo, drop parasite or skirge and run 4 wall of shadows to sit there and absorb creatures or maybe 4 Maze of Ith's. Lots of ideas, hopefully it helps!
thanks, it's an oldie but a goodie
Did you place top 4 or what?
Gotta get the deck cut down to 60 and it will work more effectively. Get the land down to about 22, then get rid of the 4 tomb hex, 2 corrupt, the 3 barony vampire, and if you can get another Gatekeeper of Malakir or Vampire Nighthawk add one of those in, if not, add maybe any rare vamp you can get your hands on or if all else fails another swamp.
Sounds to me like the deck plays well but is lacking control and can easily be stopped. My suggestion is to start from scratch with the win condition in mind... I'll write up a Marit Lage deck for you and add some black control for help. I'll pot the link later. I will do my best to keep it budget friendly.
Catacombs would be good... definitely won't hurt (no pun intended) and if you can get the Dark Confidant's than that's good. I like the addition of Apostle's Blessing as well. I would suggest running 4 Hymn to Tourach and only 2 Inquisition of Kozilek though. Hymn is a beast, especially with dakr ritual to fuel it early on.
Ironic... I bought a playset of Dark Depths about a month before Hexmage was released... for $4.95 a piece.
Favorite card... gotta be Sol Ring 3 Questions... hmmm 1) Favorite Expansion of Magic (Arabian Nights - Homelands)? 2) Favorite MTG Format? 3) Stupidest Magic trade you ever made?
I'm a big fan of Vision Skeins
