Well, if you want to use Thing as a main, with Storm as a secondary, do you really need Pyromancer Ascension? I know it's killer in pure Storm decks, but that's not what this really is. Think about it, Awoken Horror is a 7/8, that's 7 less spells needed for Grapeshot per attack, so you don't really need that much mana, etc? Or at very least, do you really need a full playset?

I'm really looking forward to getting my set (trade hasn't happened yet). Maybe I'll have some better luck testing, in other decks, than you had.
Street Wraith was considered, but it's nigh impossible to find them from the online stores I order from (no one in my club has any).
Delver supplies damage early game while Thing is still in the Ice (you can't combo every game). Also, at one mana, it's cheap to play after Thing bounces it.
If I remember, it was banned to nerf "Amulet Bloom", at the same time Splinter Twin was banned.Cascade is a no go as it can hit one of the non-Living Ends, of which I have so many. The deck intends to play stuff from the graveyard, not hand, so Noxious revival isn't that great an idea. Once I start Dredging, I'll only ever stop to prevent myself from milling myself. Discard I'd welcome, as I want my stuff in the graveyard, and to an extent, counter fits the same category of welcome (though annoying). It's exile I'm afraid of.
No tests as of yet, still accumulating all the cards for it. Combating the grave hate is something I'll look at after I've got the main idea working. Also, you know that a LOT of FNM decks are net decks used by people who don't quite grasp what the deck is capable of. I'm the quirky builder in my club, so I'm the one that is forced to face the "normal" decks (net decks).
The same friend and I often look for ways to "break the format". Sadly, I regret not stumbling on the Eldrazi thing before the tournament that made it popular, could have made so much by selling it to people who wanted to run it.
Well, in addition to the money problems, I also only started playing Magic at the end of Kamigawa. Lucky for me, I managed to collect a set of Sensei's Divining Top, which I'm trying to sell to someone from another city in SA who actually plays a format that they're legal in.This cross continental, interracial collaboration is probably the best part about the internet :P
How could I forget to include Faithless Looting in the deck. *Facepalm*
Remember, Living End is effectively a mass removal spell too. Also, Summer Bloom was banned recently. But yes, 4 lands asap is important. I'm thinking that the best hand would include Faithless Looting, and two lands: one that can produce red, and another green. Then Loot and Dredge to hopefully play Life From the Loam (hence the green) to get the remaining two lands (at least one white).
I've not had a chance to play with Thing yet. Still trying to collect a set. There appears to only be 3 copies (mine included) in my club at the moment.
There is another reason, it's a body to return with Living End, and if I'm right, it'll get the +1/+1 and haste from Flame-Kin Zealot. Also, it's the third highest Dredge number, only superseded by the Imp's 5 and Troll's 6
I don't know about the average, but I earn a measly ZAR 4800 per month :'(
South Africa. Currently it's ZAR 14.68 = USD 1Witch is lower than last week (was ZAR 15+).
If you increase the number of thing in the Ice (3-4 copies), I feel like you wouldn't need a storm count as high as without an Awoken Horror.
More Dredge.
Because my group only plays Standard and Modern. This means I normally only have access to Modern and Standard stuff. Psychotrope is a brilliant Thallid, but outside of ordering them online, I don't have access to them. And with the current exchange rate, I can barely afford the stuff I need for my tournament (FNM) decks.
I'm am here today requesting assistance with a Modern deck I'm attempting. This idea comes via a conversation with a friend at my club about using Living End in a Dredge deck. We realised early that Cascade would be a bad idea as you could hit something other than Living End, but thanks to Goblin Dark-Dwellers, we can Dredge End into the graveyard, flashback Unburial Rites to return Goblin Dark-Dwellers, then use the goblin's etb trigger to play Living End. http://www.mtgvault.com/dedwards/decks/dredge-end/
I like the fact that she halves incoming damage. Actually won a game on Friday because of it.
