Ethan definitely knows his stuff, he's shown me quite a lot. I think I'd be retarded about MtG without him, Sure, and Joe's help. For a lot of the people on here it's because they don't have anybody escalating the competition level in casual for them that they don't build stuff at certain levels. If it hadn't been for one of my friends bringing in a Zombie deck, and showing us tribe synergies for aggro, I'd still be playing a terrible Azorius deck that couldn't beat the standard kids all of the time.

Indeed, I've been shut out of games that I'd no business being shut out of because a Hymn took out my Reanimation spells by random chance... http://www.myfacewhen.net/view/326-that-really-rustled-my-jimmies Wrench Mind is the closest thing I can get, and I really want the numbers advantage on at least one slot. Yup, the birds are the word here. I'd still rather Mox Diamond, but that isn't going to happen. The system doesn't understand split mana symbols very well, so it counts Deathrite Shaman as a three cost for some reason.
I honestly don't know how to build a straightforwards tempo deck in Bant. I've never bothered to try in Legacy, and in Modern the closest I came was with a Blue Zoo deck that ran Punishing Fire. Ethan will probably be a lot better at helping you than I can. I really don't know what to make out of this list, except that in very cursory testing it feels a bit weak overall.
Believe me, it's just as bad in Modern. I seriously think they're just afraid it's going to banned. The deck is pretty cool, but I can't take credit for the starting frame sadly. Ethan was the one who found them first, and he made one to see if it played out in as epic a manner as it looks. I've just been a polished, and updated version of it since I've just got back into magic. I'll try and help as I can Jack, you've always been helpful to me, and a chance to repay that has always been enjoyable!
The curve is the problem I really have here, the deck is based off of the Legacy deck I made, and without Mox Diamond my best option really is the a playset of birds to adjust. Two colors makes it easier to run Ghost Quarter, which is pretty handy right now considering people are out brewing Valakut in force. The real thing this deck has done for me is that it made me work with the idea of playing Wrench Mind, which while a sad replacement for Hymn to Tourach, it's better than the other alternatives in that slot.
Hmmm, the patriot color scheme is interesting for Modern. Answers to most of the format are available, and what isn't answerable by what it packs from Boros, the counters theoretically should deal with. I'd lower the mana curve a bit to makeup for only having three counters, and I see how this can beat Jund, but I wouldn't mark it past a 50:50 MU in skilled hands. The problem being that your clock is about the same speed as Jund, and they have the benefit of running five to six disruption spells in the main deck. I can't believe I never thought of using this color scheme in Modern, I think after the banning of Punishing Fire, and Green Sun's Zenith killed my Blue Zoo deck I just gave up on tinkering with weird combinations. Thanks for showing me that they can still be brutals outside of Legacy :D
And this is why I enjoy Legacy PactSI, Vintage Glue, and Vintage Laboratory|Gush. Also, Johnkaldar, the card you're thinking of is Goryo's Vengeance. It's instant speed, so you can cast it in response to Emrakul's trigger :)
Ah, I didn't notice you meant this as a combo deck. I can dig it for the protection, I just always think more like control I guess.
http://www.myfacewhen.net/view/3923-jontron-success That is what I say to the start of that comment. It's been going pretty steady with this deck, and Abrupt Decay is indeed the main thing I run into that shuts me down, but the great thing about this deck is that I can still control most games off of this. I've toyed with the idea of using a Worm Harvest here, but five mana is troublesome. The fact that people are putting down Abrupt Decay really just has me confused, it's so powerful that I can't help but build Golgari for it. My guess is that they think it's going to be banned, and don't want to get too accustomed to having it. It runs surprisingly smooth actually. I was worried at first about playing a dedicated Loam list in Modern, where I have no Mox Diamonds, and know people who actively play playsets of Dryad Militant and Deathrite Shaman, but it's doing quite well. I had originally been going to play Cryptic Command actually, but I replaced them with Izzet Charm a while back, and it's debatable which is better here. Cryptic Command is a great card from extended, but I've never really liked paying four for it :/
I really like this, and I can't lie, I referenced it a lot when attempting to see if I could make a Wargate Valakut work with the Modern banned list. Good job Ethan, this is pretty slick. One question though, why Dispel over Spell Pierce? Yes, Dispel is a hard counter for Instants, but Spell Pierce hits so much more. I'd keep it, if for nothing else, being able to stop a turn one Æther Vial, and hitting a touch more from Jund.
Oh man, that campaign was amazing, and while it's not quite the same, I seriously suggest doing the Spartan Ops. The first one is kind of boring, but the fourth one is more fun on Legendary than most of the campaign! I'm only getting the Limited edition because my sister reserved it for me for Christmas, if I buy a game, I almost exclusively buy the cheapest version. I might be getting on my 360 tonight, but I can't get on Halo 4. I had to return it or face late fees sadly.
Took a more Poxless Pox approach, and it has been pleasantly surprising in testing. I'm happy you like it Jack, your input has never been anything but useful to me, for that I thank you. Bloodghast likes to sneak up on people who don't experiment with him a lot, I had originally been a dissenter, but Sure convinced me to tinker with them, and I've not looked back :) There definitely is a painful amount of BG/x control and tempo right now, but sadly the reason for that is the brilliant piece of hate that is Abrupt Decay. Being able to use uncounterable removal for half of the major threats in the format is a big step up from just running Snuff Out to deal with an opposing 'goyf. Life from the Loam at one is something I'm sketchy about at best, but I would love to run a third Ghastly Demise. At one point last night I'd started toying with the idea of not running Ghastly Demise, instead playing a Raven's Crime, and a Flame Jab, and while the idea of a Jund control holds for Modern, there's no way I'd be able to justify it in Legacy right now.
It's simple why that curve is so familiar to you Sure, we both wind up using it more than we should. Sometimes the numbers are via alternative costs, but in the end a lot of our control builds that make use of Mox Diamond have had almost that exact curve :) Our more signature builds are exceptions, but those are exceptions to a lot of things.
But of course Dag, but sadly right now I don't have a copy of Halo 4 T_T I was renting it from a local place, I'm planning on getting it around December as the Legendary/limited edition. Gamertag is "BH Psychosis" :D
True, and sometimes I get too carried away with the decks I see, so I think Ghastly Demise in place of Innocent Blood. Edict effects and Liliana are very much present though. I was more thinking in the line of being forced into playing Vision Charm at a bad time, and Mizzium Skin was the option that sprang to mind.
Well the thing is that this is something a little more "casual", and the landbase was going through some changes before I left to help a friend do some home improvement. There is no white splash, I stuck the Loxodon in because I just knew I wanted a creature with a good power, and I kind of need it to be a green creature for the math to work out in my favor. Bloodghast is actually one of my favourite creatures in a Pox list, even one so bad as this. It's somewhat of an acquired taste, but in my more lockout designs, it's simply brutal. Amore e morte is a list of mine that exemplifies that quite well I think. I really just want to make an BG Bloodghast control after tinkering about with Death Cloud lately, and I don't want to cheat and think about RaggedJoe's list. As far as I know he's retired from this site, so I'd prefer to leave his designs in peace, and work from scratch transposing this idea from Modern to Legacy.
1)Good for Wumps and Allison then, and double good for him since she's good at Magic! 2)I can see that. It's only two colors, and the debauchery contained within is enough to make me doubt whether or not my Nephilim deck has more. That's with just going for the kill! http://www.myfacewhen.com/images/385
Congratulations on the whole engagement thing man, I hope it works out well, and hope you two have a good time together! On the deck itself, all I can say is that I'd only play against it with my Nephilim deck. Birthday, Dethday is pretty dang awesome. I'm planning on sending one of my friends a cover of it on their birthday XD Murdertrain a-comin' is also one of the coolest metal songs ever written.
I think I've lost more to this in testing since changing my Wargate Valakut into a Modern legal state. Even being the powerhouse it is, Jund isn't as much of a headache.
I wouldn't really call Dethklok thrash, but they have stuff that could be considered an evolution of it. That song is one of my favourites, but I standby saying that by flavor of Rakdos as a general Awaken would suit better. I need to buy the album too, but first I have to get Paradise Lost by Nine Day Fall. They're pretty sick, the song Vendetta(spill the blood) is my favourite metal song of 2012
