This is casual in which this is the first deck I've played sol ring.
Something to combo with Scryb Ranger.
It actually does work that way. I've tried this out on xmage and Cockatrice and it works exactly the way it should.
Is Braids of fire even useful being that you get the mana during your upkeep?
Grassfrog, this is Standard.MoC Black draw in standard all requires life loss. Black draw in most cases all require life loss. Yes I have to wait until turn 4, atleast, before I get to draw a card. But that is when I will need to be drawing cards.Naming discard as a disadvantage to Madness or Dredge is silly. Ideally I would leave the Zombie as blockers and tap at the end of my opponent's turn for the extra draw.
I like Cryptbreaker's eventual draw ability. That's my only draw outlet in the deck, an it's one of my few turn one plays in this deck.
A great way to protect Colossus is Not of this World. I have a shape anew deck that pretty much does the same as what this deck is trying to do, without the damage to you. It does alright at my local FNM.http://www.mtgvault.com/bfrick2/decks/shape-anew/
This is casual sorry for not labeling
I would replace Underground Sea for Drowned Catacomb, unless you have hundreds of dollars for each Underground Sea. You also want atleast 1 basic land just incase you get Path to Exile'd. I'd keep in the ramp. You want to be able to play Duskmantle Guildmage and it's ability the first turn it hits so your opponent has less time to respond to it.Also, if you replace the Underground Sea and the Counterspell, this is Modern Legal. I'm not sure the best counter to replace Counterspell with. Alot of people play Remand, I like Negate, Mana Leak, and Dispel. Negate hits alot of spells, Mana Leak hits everything, and Dispel hits alot of removal.Looks good!
I added a description so you can see my mindset for the deck. Atarka's Command and CoCo are too expensive for what I was trying for. The +1/+1 sliver are for finishing once you have cleared the board, so making room for provoke and Prey Upon was more my goal. Thanks for all the comments!
Your Crusader dies from all of your spells save for one. Spark Elemental is a better fit.
Have you thought of adding Shapesharer or Mothdust Changeling to main deck. I'm not sure what to take out, but being able to flop the "Big Fish" with Call to the Kindred would be insane. The fact that they also benefit from the Merfolk bonuses is a plus.
ink/blinkmoth is here for additional Flying. Mentioning additional blue mana sources reminded me that I didn't want blue in the deck but I had forgotten my draw engine. Modular creatures with skullclamp and Skeleton shard is hilarious to watch. I played Modern affinity and sold my deck to make three others. I can't stand the Modern scene in my town and much prefer to have fun and play Casual.
Sidisi's Faithful is bad for the same reason the amount of Ordeals was bad. Lack of creatures. I added Thing in the Ice and Izzet Charm in the place of Ordeal of Purphoros and echoing truth.
Spark Elemental and Skin Invasion are another great combo.
We can't have seriousness in a deck like this.
Tree of Perdition comboing with Soul Separator is going to be a thing. Making someones life 1 is too good.
Would Assemble the Legion be better than Akroan Horse?
I like Polukranos, World Eater over Hydra Broodmaster. A nice opponent side board wipe.
