Pretty nice deck man. But since it's supposed to be aggro and fast, why the pyromancers goggles? As a game ender if you have collateral damage in hand and 2 goblins on the field?

Hello all! After posting expensive decks on the vault, I decided to put up some budget decks, and what better format to play budget than the Pauper format? Got any tips or suggestions for me? I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!

I like him too. Flying deathtouch lifelink hehehe. Only problem is it's in bolt range, and no recursion, like with geralf's undying. Hmmm. Decisions decisions...

Hello, yes, that was a concern. Triple black is high devotion in a mardu deck. I thought Urborg would keep me safe, but now that you mention it, I might consider replacing him with gravecrawler or maybe tidehollow sculler. Thanks for pointing that out!

Thanks a lot for your advice Gothy. Glad you're still around and haven't left the vault completely yet heheheh. Yeah, I considered vengevine and the grave troll, but I was afraid of turning this into a dredgevine deck. Yes, combo in modern is great, my favorite being bloom titan =)

Yeah, maybe I can squeeze 2 of them in. I'll have to see if I can out the maelstrom pulse entirely...

Yeah, I debated on if I should use confidants or pyromancers. I went with pyromancers to pop out tokens. Any ideas on what to take out? Or should I just replace the pyromancers with the confidants?

Hey man, I already commented a few times here. I was wondering if, before you left, you could take a look at my loam pox deck?

It certainly doesn't fit here on the vault cause it's OVER-budget but I would appreciate your advice/tips. Thanks!

Thanks! Yeah, graveyard hate will wreck me, but instead of holding me hostage with them, I can force them to pop them with my abrupt decays and golgari charms. I'm not too worried about chalice of the void since it'll take them until turn 4 to chalice for 2. Plus, I don't see many sideboard chalices. Thanks for the tips!

Thanks a lot! Well, Liliana is mostly used for discard or for getting around hexproof. I suppose you could up the Raven's Crime to 4 to make them discard. As far as making them sacrifice a creature, you could either use Geth's Verdict or Dismember, but of course they won't be as good since they are 1-shots. Liliana is just so much better. There's a very good chance she could be reprinted in either a return to Innistrad or modern masters 3. Again, sorry the price tag is so high, but thanks for taking a look at it.

Hey peeps. Took my pox decks in a whole different direction based on the current metas in modern right now. I apologize in advance that this deck will break the bank at 4-figures, but hell. Cut the 2 tarmogoyfs for scavenging oozes and you cut the price by 40%. Let me know if you got any suggestions, tips, replacements, sideboard changes, etc. Any help is always welcome! Thanks!

Only change I made was replacing the 2 Phantasmal Images with the new Harbinger of the Tides from Origins. Free Unsummon spell.

I agree with drak, as well as temurman above. Using pain lands will also give you access to your colors. Right now. bloodstained mires are the only fetchlands (at least in standard), so I would definitely put in 4 (and as temurman said above, the pain lands). I would up the total land count to 24. Don't worry about getting mana flooded, as you have warriors that utilize extra mana - raid, dash, and alesha and hordechief).

Nice standard deck. The mana curve is a little high. I might take out chief of the scale (edge is much better) and replace them with some fetch lands so you can have access to all of your colors. Since you have so many creatures, you might want to put in Athreos, God of Passage. But yeah. Standard Warriors is really solid.

How about some blood moons? at least in the sideboard. With your goblin king, suddenly all of your goblins are unblockable. I know you splashed in the tiniest amount of green for co-co but blood moons shouldn't bite you in the butt if you fetch for the forest.

I have to agree with the swarmer. why no piledrivers? those guys get insane so fast. I also agree with his bolt suggestion. I might consider sideboarding or even main-boarding some blood moons. those stop soooo many decks...and since you're running goblin king, all of your goblins suddenly become unblockable.

When Origins comes out, the following will be standard legal:
Theros, Born of the Gods, Journey into Nyx, M15 Core Set
Khans of Tarkir, Fate Reforged, Dragons of Tarkir, Origins
Come late September, when Battle for Zendikar is released, the entire first line will no longer be standard legal. Just Battle for Zendikar and the second line.

You certainly shouldn't feel bad Northy. As I mentioned, this is a GREAT place to introduce new players into magic and a wonderful place to help them get their feet wet in this game. Your budget deck really are inspiring. Last year, when you made the budget standard tribal warriors deck with khans of tarkir, I made that deck and even went 3-0-1 at my LGS against expensive decks. It was SO aggro. =)
Keep those budget decks coming. Now that WOTC is cutting out core sets to entice players into mtg, it looks like YOU will have to fill that role. ;-) Keep up the great work.

Yes, I agree. I still support my LGS when it comes to buying packs, singles, and supplies like dice/sleeves/deck boxes. But I honestly got tired of crushing people there with my tiered decks. That's why I started gaming at channel fireball since the people there have top -tiered decks and are more competitive (and it helps that they have FREE Modern and Standard tournaments each week). Anyway, after playing there, I stopped making mistakes and misplays VERY fast =P
That's why I really agree with your post. The vault is great for beginners and those just starting out, but eventually, people need to "up their game". There are still lots of budget-friendly formats, like Pauper, Peasant, and Commander/EDH formats.
But yes, you cannot get that much advice/suggestions for your decks from the vault if they are not used to competitive decks. While I have the utmost respect for Northy, when I asked for his help on one of my decks that combined Podless Pod + Hatebears, he only said: "Since I am not into Modern at all, all I can offer is my support." Fair enough. No problem with that. He was courteous enough to reply. But in order to get useful advice on decks, I really think we need to seek help elsewhere. There are still those on the vault that offer great advice, which is why I'll still post decks on here though. But for now, the best advice I've been getting is from other players at fireball.

Sad to hear you leaving, but I more than understand your predicament. I came onto the vault a year ago and was overwhelmed by the number of budget decks. Budget decks are a GREAT way to introduce people into magic, but as time goes on, people need to adapt to change, evolve, and up their game. I've stopped playing at my local comic book store and now play at Channel Fireball. Similarly, I've stopped using the vault as a way to learn techniques/strategies and made more competitive decks. I don't think I've posted a deck on here that's less than $100. Most of mine are around the $500 price range, which, of course, doesn't seem to "fit in" with all of these budget decks.

I totally hear you Gothy. There is NOTHING wrong with non-budget decks. Just too bad there's not other forums/sites as good as the vault for comments, suggestions, tips, etc.

Best wishes, good luck, and happy trails...
