Both good suggestions!

lol- Believe me, I won't be playing this any time soon. It's all good, man.
I lose.I don't understand why you're hung up on this deck. It's just a 'for-fun' deck I made because I was bored. Would it help if I made it private so only I could see it?
Seshiro the Anointed. Because Snakes.Any more questions?
Aw, thank you!I love it when people explaining the reasoning behind their suggestions the way I tried to.(also, I agree with having about 23 lands)
Oh yes, I can definitely understand that.Starting out, you've got to stick to what you already have, and all that. I'm glad I could help out, though!
lol- I've actually made and tested this deck a bit. Believe me, Curses of Thirst and Curses of Bloodletting are invaluable for dealing weirdly high amounts of damage each turn, but the original idea of the deck was just to have fun and roll with it.Thanks for the suggestions, though!
¿Snakes isn't enough? It's a snake tribal deck. There are no hidden combos, no tricksy battle plans. It's a straightforward creature deck.
There's a concept a friend of mine taught me when I started building decks:"Stop and cull the roses."You have quite a few cards here that you have only 1 or 2 of. Some of these makes sense! You don't ever want only Evangel of Heliods in your hand if you can't afford them, so it's fine if you have only 2 in the deck. Others, like Trained Caracel seem a bit weak. Drop some of those creatures and replace them with more useful creatures. Adjust them as you see which ones are strong and which ones don't add much to the deck. Many of the creatures you have here have the ability "Heroic." Its a useful ability! Unfortunately, you don't have many cards(think Enchantments) here that you would want to target one of your own creatures with. Ordeal of Heliod is a great start. In fact, I'd probably want 4 of those in my deck. But you'll want more enchantments that trigger the Heroic Ability to take advantage of that. In your sideboard, I see a Launch the Fleet. Put 3 or 4 of those into your main deck. It's a really cheap targeting spell that ALSO gives you some little 1/1's to play with, too. Some others to consider: Hold at Bay - Nyxborn Shieldmate - Gift of Immortality - Blessing - Holy Mantle - Sunbond (on a creature with lifelink) - Chosen by Heliod - Divine FavorOppressive Rays and Pacifism are great fantastic removal spells that stop threatening creatures from attacking you or getting in your way. Keep these in. I'd maybe put one more 'Pacifism' in and one less Oppressive Rays. You could probably replace the Excoriates with Avenging Arrows, too. Armament of Nyx would be a lot more useful if you had Enchantment creatures here, but as is, I think you can safely drop that one, too.Welcome to the wonderful world of Magic!I hope this helped some! :D
Cool deck idea! I didn't know about Quest for Ula's Temple before now! In fact, I'm sorely tempted to make a Sea Monster deck now...But anyways- you've got to trim your deck down. The more cards you put into a deck, the smaller chance you'll draw the cards that you really NEED (Quest for Ula's Temple being the obvious one). I'd suggest first dropping Colossal Whale. It's a 7 Converted Mana Cost, and you can't even bring it out with Ula's Temple. At that point, I think it may just be a dead-weight(as cool a card as it is). Nimbus Swimmer's gotta go, too. You don't have any way of producing Green Mana, and you don't have a very big mana base to begin with to make it a worthwhile creature in this deck (Although you might consider adding more mana, too...).I'd say drop Serpent of the Endless Sea, too. If you decide to keep only 20 Lands in the deck, your Serpent won't be particularly strong.Now- what are your strongest monsters? Tromokratis seems like a pretty good contestant for this. I'd run 4 of them.Same goes for Deep-Sea Kraken. An unblockable monster like that has to be dealt with immediately, or your enemy has no chance. Run 4 of them, too.Inkwell Leviathan- Also just ridiculous. A 7/11 with trample CANNOT be ignored for too long. Run 4 of these, too.Trench Gorger is a maybe, but a pretty darn good 'maybe.' It depends how willing you are to throw out all your other lands. Use your own judgement on this one :)Scourge of Fleets is a pretty mean way of removing little creatures. It's perfect. Run at least 2, maybe even the full 4.Pretty much any of your creatures with Monstrosity are sort of dead-weights, too, unless you run High Tide or another Sol Ring to be able to afford those pretty steep costs. I would stick with those monsters I listed and drop the others. Also, consider that Whelming Wave makes Rogue's Passage a little irrelevant.Phew. That was a longer comment than I was originally planning. I do hope this helped some, though!
Hey, what can I say? I liked the deck!
Yep. I was in the middle of editing this deck, taking other people's suggestions.Originally I had Fleecemane Lions and Loxodon Smiters and other 'beater' type cards. I didn't run four Fathom Mages because that's by far the weakest link in the combo chain (4cmc for a 1/1?), and I wanted the deck to work whether or not I got the combo out. That said, I do like your suggestions, and will include them. Thank you!
Oh, yes. That works perfectly.Thanks!
You know? I don't quite remember.I think the original idea was to come out for free with Leaf-Crowned Elder, but it really doesn't seem worthwhile.
...Nothing. It snakes.
Replace Defend the Hearth with Respite. Might as well get something out of any attacking creatures!Other than that, good idea overall.
Mmk. Yeah, Hero's Downfall might be worth it.Anyways, very cool deck!
Mhm. I didn't want it to be too similar to my Simic Growing deck.I can definitely see room for a Gyre Sage, though. Thanks for the input!
Alright. All good suggestions!
OK. That's fair. Loxodon Smiter is actually kind of a hold-over from an earlier version of this deck.So any specific cards you have in mind? Or is there a control deck I could look at to steal ideas from? I know about Sylvan Caryatid and other mana ramping cards, but I'd like to keep it as low cost as possible(willing to go up to about $50?) and keep it in Standard if at all possible.
