Hey man, I'll check out yours if you let me know what you think of mine. http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=329946
I like the idea, but doomsayer seems a bit too slow for this deck. I do use doomsayer in another deck of mine - I call it my "Feed me Seymour" white human/black demon deck. It works out pretty well there.
Technically, I already have 13 white sources (the two cavern of souls would obviously be declared for humans and thus could go for either red or white). But I do think you're correct about dropping one slayer's stronghold. And I also like the suggestion to drop some rallys for thatcher revolts. Thanks much.
I like the mix that you have. I made essentially the same deck with some slight variations. For example, I use Kruin Striker as my 2 drop creature instead of Stormblood. And I use Hero of Bladeholds instead of Hellrider. That being said, I do like the instant speed damage of Hellrider. As a starter for a suggestion, I would say add two Cavern of Souls. As most of your creatures are humans, the ability to prevent counterspells to your human creatures is pretty valuable. Here's my deck list - http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=329946. Perhaps we can combine forces and make a really solid build.
That's a really good point. I think I will drop the stormblood berserkers for gather. Turn 1 champ, Turn 2 gather (swing with a 3/3), turn 3 Malcotents - take 3 automatically, and swing with a 4/4, and 2 1/1s seems like a solid start.
Just a heads up. You cannot share both abilities between two creatures that have soulbond (ie Nightshade + Silverblade would not create two deathtouching double strike creatures). This is apparently a confusing part of the errata that is still confusing a bunch of people.
Really? You literally have the rule staring you in the face (hint: its 502.7e) that says that it immune from slagstorm and you still say that its not?
Protection from a color will reduce all damage from that collor to zero. The minus one counters from bsz and the destroy all from day are different. Phyrexian crusader is immune from slagstorm and whipflare.
I feel like you need birds of paradise to help accelerate the mans and solve any mana issues. Also, since you need green to get started and you are probably relying on the pod to cast your higher cost black mana guys, a majority of your lands should be forests. Finally, id suggest removal instead of undying evil, the majority of your guys have undying already or you don't care if they die.
Well you have tragic slip and flayer already for creature removal, the o ring just adds some more protection against artifacts and enchantments or creatures in a pinch. To that end, I would also suggest some more artifact hate for your sideboard

I'm glad to hear that this deck has promise and can do well. I have a similar deck in theory and would like to get your input. Www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=301588 As for your deck, I think you could benefit from some oblivion rings, a second ravenous demon, and perhaps, because so many of your threats are white, you may consider honor of the pure or maybe even adaptive autotmaton. At least with the automaton, he could pump your white and black humans. Also I might suggest theory of bladehold instead of greist monk. His tokens are humans (as opposed to spirits) and the battle cry is awesome for swarm style attacks.
My biggest concern is the number of creatures. With only 10 creatures, that is essentially a one in 6 possibility of each card being what you need. Outside of the ideal hand that you described, you have no way of recovering after turn 3 or 4. And if the opponent has enough removal to lock your creatures down/dead before they can swing. To that end, Inkmoth Nexus is a great addition as is necropede and another couple of ichor claw rats. I think you can drop unnatural predation, hunter's insight, and possible titanic growth. That still leaves you with 14 combat tricks that target your creatures and you could always bump the tezzerit's gambit count up to accomodate for the decrease in draw ability.
I just got my hands on my first havengul and I may consider dropping one apocalypse for it; however, I don't really want to go the route of your deck (which is very solid btw and congrats on a first place finish). I figure that for one more mana, I can potentially get 3-5 zombies back via zombie apocalypse which is essentially how much I have to spend (not counting the zombie's casting cost) via the havengul.
I tend to agree regarding gather the townsfolk over midnight haunting. A first turn parish and then a 2nd turn gather just seems so strong. I really only had the midnight haunting because of the instant speed and it's ability to replenish the board with at least some blockers following a board wipe (mainly stuff like whip flare or slagstorm that might leave their creatures in tact.) As for increasing devotion, the cost does deter me a little, but considering that it is 5 mana and could come immediately after a total board wipe, I think you may be right. I appreciate the advice.
Of course, forgot about the gravecrawler. How about nihil spellbomb instead? It's more focused and can still rob them of their snapcaster flashback spells.
I like the deck. Have you considered adding Mikaeus, the Unhallowed? He can wreck some face with black sun's zenith and diregraf captain (just do it for enough to kill the lesser guys, do it for the garaunteed damage via captain and then they come back via undying). You mentioned that solar flare gives you some problems, what about side boarding grafdigger's cage and siding out the havengul lich? You could even work in some zombie apocalypses so that you get the recurrence but not actually casting them from the graveyard. Plus zombie apocalypse can wreck a humans deck. Take a look at mine and let me know what you think. http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=298895
I like the idea of this deck so I decided to make a version that is blue and white with more control built in, would you mind taking a look and letting me know? http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=300395
I dont like unbreathing horde or the noxious revival. I'd say you can drop both for spells like forbidden alchemy, black sun's zenith, cemetery reaper and more zombie apocalypse. Feel free to take a look at my deck and let me know what you think. http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=298895
