I don't go out and purchase these cards. I make play test decks, proxy them, play them, see how competitive they are and then go from there in an evaluation process or pass them on to more hardcore players. I rarely spend large amounts of money on magic cards. ... Rarely.
Urbog is a 1 of and I can't fetch it, so Damnation is more often effective. The deck may not even need the Damnation, honestly. I just started working on this deck today, lol.

I was unable to take it to States this weekend, car troubles. Though, had I gone to states I would have been playing my Elf-Ball list. Two of my friends took Elves and both went 3-2 but dropped heading into round 6. They didn't feel confident they'd make the cut to top 8 sadly. They should have played it out, but to each their own!
He empowers and refuels the board. It's not a concern if he can't be retrieved with Collected Company. After seeing how the deck curves out he fits in quite well.
Update. -2 Wall of Roots. -1 Gavony Township. +1 Kitchen Finks. +1 Stirring Wildwood. +1 Ranger of Eos
Thank you, Maumau. I may tweak a few aspects of it, but as I said, there's a ton of copies of this deck running around (and I had no hand in those peoples lives - that I know of!). So, it's having success, only the future will tell how much.
Check out the TCGPlayer states top 8 lists. ^_~
This isn't trying to be a pure combo deck, my friend. The last Pod decks were less combo, more versatility, which won more. And Pod was a deck that you HAD to play many many times. You needed to know the interactions and when/what to drop.
Update: I played this deck against Splinter Twin and it faired well, however I'm going to be making a few changes. It went 1-3 but most were close games.
http://www.mtgvault.com/larkfellon/decks/rwu-mentor/Here's a decklist I made that you may appreciate. I agree, something with teeth. With dig through time out, I wanted to play a control game that kept heavy pressure on.
I've had them like that; none of mine make first page. I made this only to show the OTHER Birthing Pod Reborn guy how i'd do what he wanted to do. And no, saffi combo? I'm not familiar, or mayhaps I'm missing something.

I don't disagree, whatsoever. Honestly, I just wanted to show a more versatile build of what he was trying to do. Slamming a combo isn't my favorite thing to do, especially in modern. However, combo by chance and running the board with multiple options; now that's my flavor. At the end of the day, Pod is dead but there are so many good creatures out there. I'll link another list I made that takes into account what you're saying.
http://www.mtgvault.com/larkfellon/decks/birthing-pod-20/Here's my list that more resembles what birthing pod was good at. You, like Splinter Twin, aren't trying to force the combo, you're trying to be versatile and play creatures that make a difference.
I don't dislike the idea; I'll build this from the ground up with attention to detail.
Of course! The only card I never found myself wanting to cast was Blightening. I may come back and take a look at what that could turn into.
Sorry, it took so long. I played the deck last night for the first time against a Tribal Elves, it performed admirably going 3-0 main deck vs main deck. It top decks well and I really enjoyed the pack rats!
Absolutely. I'm starting to see the U/R twin deck take over as the new #1 played deck in Modern, and why not? It's so successful, but it has it's faults. Mainly that everyone knows the base and can read the warning signs of the combo.
