Dem Fluxchargers.
Thanks for the heads up, I will definitely check it out.
Hahaha! loldeck building xD I try to come up with scenarios while building my decks as well. I think I enjoy deckbuilding more than actually playing.
Pure evil. Me gusta.
I would love to play against a deck like this, just to see how a virtually creature-less deck handles. I am considering building something similar, but can't wrap my mind around a deck that has no physical defense against combat damage. Thoughts?
I just got my hands on a couple of Biovisionary spells, so I'm looking to build a deck around it. Some nice ideas!
Update:Swapped out a Commander's Authority for another Sorin, Lord of Innistrad. We'll see how it plays.
Love your suggestions, especially the Blind Obedience. Thanks! I will keep them in mind when I'm ready to make some purchases. The local comic shop is always being swarmed by like-minded MTG players, so I have to just hope I can get lucky enough to pull those cards.EDIT:Also, thanks for noting how you plan to use it. I'm a casual player, but I am considering getting competitive. So I like that this deck could potentially be competitive, with the right tweaks. Also, vamps are my favorite creature type as well. This, and my B/R vamp deck are ongoing pet projects of mine. They will be tweaked until perfected.
Update:Traded x2 Timberpack Wolf for x1 Disciple of the Old Ways and x1 Scorchwalker. So now I'm up one bloodrush, and a kickass X-23.Werewolves I'm liking so far:1. Reckless Waif. Great turn 1. 2. Mondronen Shaman. Brutal triggered ability as a wolf. Adds a nice unexpected control mechanic to stifle the opponent.3. Daybreak Ranger. Need to find a way to grant it deathtouch. Maybe Nightshade Peddler to fit the theme (druids/shaman/forest dwellers)4. Scorned Villager. great turn 2 drop, and the extra mana will bring everything else out faster.5. Gastaf Shepherd. great turn 2, and intimidate in wolf form.Still lots to work on. Still tweaking the loadout. Might end up going Tribal werewolf.
Well actually this is a deck that I actually own. It's very hodge-podgy as I am using the cards I actually have. I have never actually considered using MTG Vault the way you are.So I will definitely build another deck, for reviews, and put my ideal Nicol Bolas setup for review. Should I tag it as unloved to get attention? Or would that be considered misuse of the Unloved tag?
Yes, I need dual lands badly. So badly.I want to put some love into this particular deck, so I will see how much I can afford to spend. I may do a mixture of buying individual cards, and gambling on boosters. Also, isn't Dragon's Maze supposed to focus on dual lands?
Hi Laservader123!Thank you so much for the suggestions. I'm going to outline my thoughts:1. Electrickery!! Thanks for pointing this spell out. I shall definitely consider adding it.2. I *DO* want to add low cost creatures. I am going to put a list together of how I want to tweak this deck, and create a new deck.3. Mizzium Mortars is also a beautiful suggestion. I am loving the overload mechanic.4. Switching to draw a card spells is in the works, and a great idea. I'll add those to the new "to buy" deck. Thanks for helping me further plan this deck out. I'd upvote your reply twice if I could :)
Let me know how this plays!
Good stuff!I'd throw in some Falkenrath Nobles, to boost the life loss/gain even more when you drop Day of Judgement.
I too am struggling with a budget Nicol Bolas deck. I do like the inclusion of Slumbering Dragons, as it only costs one-mana, and acts as a deterrent . Also, I hadn't thought of the Gem of Becoming, so thanks for that.Over-all you and I are going for two different approaches. The only "problem" I see with this deck, is that it only has 8 creatures. I've found that a reduced number of creatures can present challenges early on, when facing faster creature-based decks. But having a lot of cheap counters should help in the early game. I personally would try to find a way to boost the creature count, with maybe some cheap blockers like Fog Bank. That way you have some breathing room, and can save your counters/cancels for the more dangerous threats.Otherwise, sweet deck, with some good ideas. Good luck!
After playing about a dozen games, and only winning four, I have concluded that the deck (aside from it sucking majorly):1. Needs dual lands, badly.2. Needs to have the creatures:spells ratio re-balanced. Most of my losses were due to not pulling a single creature for the first 4-6 turns (a nightmare against fast creature-based decks)3. I need to purchase some specific creatures and spells to improve the deck's efficiency. Looking into creatures that are unblockable, hexproof, and some cheap defenders (such as Fog Bank)5. Cipher is tons of fun, so I will look at some cheap and relevant cipher spells.6. Beguiler of Wills is fun to use, so I may structure the deck around it. Perhaps find a way to generate token creatures/copies7. Simic Manipulator is fun as well, so I am thinking about pairing it with a Ring of Eros, or finding a more efficient way of boosting it. Or scrapping it. I dunno.Over-all I need to tighten up, and pick one or two mechanics and focus on them. I'm thinking destroy and control. So I will try to focus on creatures/spells that allow me to take control of, or destroy the opponents creatures.
# Upgrade Ideas1. x1 Vampire Nighthawk2. x3 Ring of Xathrid3. x2 Wolfhunter's Quiver4. x3 Rakish Heir5. x4 Rogue's Passage6. x4 Glaring Spotlight7. x3 Inquisitor's Flail8. Find some low-curve (1-2 mana cost) vamps to add9. x4 Traitorous Blood10. x4 Tribute to Hunger## Strategy & Reasoning1. Vampire Nighthawk + Wolfhunter's Quiver (defenders, creature killer with death touch)2. Beaters + Inquisitor's Flail + Ring of Xathrid (indestructible + double damage)3. Rakish Heir to rack up counters4. Glaring Spotlight to kill hex proof5. Rogue's Passage to make unblockable6. TB and ToH to benefit from enemy's creatures
This deck is a major work in progress.I want to ultimately narrow the focus of the deck to one or two werewolves types, and have four of each. Maybe focus on wolves/werewolves with decent activated abilities (such as Daybreak Ranger). That way I can tighten the creature fighting aspect of the deck, and make room for some support spells; such as wolf token generating, for example.I also want to get all four Disciple of the Old Ways. Basically, narrow the creatures down to those with first strike, or those that can gain it. It will really help set off Bloodrush ambushes (plus, the disciple looks like X-23, which is so badass. I love the primal feel, and it fits thematically).Additionally, I will try to acquire more useful bloodrush spells; such as ones that grant trample.
Mini-review after two games:1. I'm in love with Mindshrieker. I want more.2. So far it works like advertised. Could use some tightening up, but the basic strategy is solid.
