I have a Cowardice and a Riptide Mangler in play.

I use the Mangler's ability to target a creature (let's say, with power 5).
Targeting that creature triggers Cowardice.

I know Cowardice will bounce the creature before the Mangler's ability resolves. But does the Mangler's power still change to 5? Or does the disappearing target cause the ability to fizzle?

(I hope it's the first one.)
