Discard?
What specifically does it refer to when a card speaks of "discarding"? In particular, I have a deck with Liliana's caress in it (opponent loses 2 life every time he discards a card). In addition, it has jace's erasure (every time I draw, opponent puts top card of his library into graveyard). Does Lilliana's caress apply here? Is that considered discarding or not?

Discarding is the process of putting a card from YOUR HAND into your graveyard. So removing the top card from your library and putting it into graveyard is not discarding.

It only applies to cards/abilities that specifically mention discarding.
There's always the possibility that they create an ability in the future that is functionally similar but is called something else or there may be an obscure card that does similar but has not been errata'ed to "discard".
