Help me understand: Gideon Jura
Hi all,
I play white/blue and was fortunate enough to win a Gideon Jura Plainswalker at a booster draft. I don't understand how to use him appropriately. I'm pretty new to MtG, and very new to Plainswalkers.
His -2 and 0 abilities are obviously great, but I can't seem to find a way to make his +2 ability work.
By the time I have the mana to pull Gideon out, my opponents already have some big creatures (lets say... two 4/4 creatures). If I make even two of them attack Gideon using his +2 ability, Gideon will die. So I effectively cannot 'recharge' Gideon's loyalty.

Gideon is in my opinion the best walker in standard. All 3 of his abilities have wonderful synergy and his +2 is really insane. By making all of your opponent's creatures attack him, you force your opponent to concentrate on him rather than you AND be able to block and kill high value creatures.
I've gotta say just by himself, gideon's not the greatest but if you have a strong board and you drop a gideon, you've got it in the bag. He needs support but every single color can support him as all ya need is creatures to block with.
Lastly, I think he's amazing as he's what I like to call "uber bolt range." May not make sense but if you're opponent's at like 6 life and I drop a gideon, it's as easy as casting a bolt and killing them while they're at 3. They swing all at gideon, tapping them out. If he dies, he dies. If not, you swing in for game and it works the opposite way too. If you're at like 2 life and you can't afford to take anymore damage, just force gideon to get shat on to give you an extra turn.

Thank you for the feedback! So if I understand the strategy right...
YOUR TURN -----
+2 activate: Gideon makes every creature attack him next turn.
END TURN ------
OPPONENTS TURN -----
Every creature attacks Gideon, but you the PLAYER, can protect Gideon with other creatures? I didn't know you could defend a Plainswalker like you could yourself. So basically, you're forcing other creatures to attack, and be slaughtered by your defenders?

[/QUOTE]
Rule 509.1 A states that for each creature that is legally able to block, the defending player may choose one attacker for it to block thats attacking them or a planeswalker they control.

That's paraphrased by the way.
