Question about Melira, Sylvok Outcast
I have a question about this card Melira, Sylvok Outcast. I played this card against a guy who had an infect deck and he said that it did not keep me from getting -1/-1 on my elves and I still got poison counters. I need clairification on this because I think hes wrong. Thanks all, Kevin

doesn't the card say you can't get poison or -1/-1 counters? I don't see where the confusion is

It does, however he said it would not effect him due to the card he was using isnt giving me counters. I thought taking away his infect would apply to all the cards he uses in the deck. Whether they were creatures, sorceries, instants, or whatever. Just need someone to tell me Im right so I can beat him and show him proof.

black sun's zenith would definitely not affect your creatures with melira down. -1/-1 counters are -1/-1 counters

Melira does all sorts of neat stuff and I think who you were playing was just afraid of losing because he couldn't handle not running infect. As long as she is in play, she stops you from getting any more poison counters (the ones you have stay), she keeps your creatures from having any more -1/-1 counters placed on them (this includes proliferated ones), it makes all opponents creatures lose infect (pretty self explanatory). It also stops creatures who come into play from getting their -1/-1 counters (such as Etched Monstrosity comes in as a 10/10 with no counters), changes the way damage is dealt to Phyrexian Hydra (All damage is prevented and no -1/-1 counters are placed on it) and it keeps creatures with persist (which isn't standard legal anymore, but it's still cool to know) from coming back with -1/-1 counters. What would happen in the case of Black Sun's Zenith would be all creatures not affected by Melira get X -1/-1 counters and nothing happens to yours.
