Deck Challenge - Sanguine Bond/Lifegain
ok, I am not 100% sure how this deck challenge thing works. I didn't see a set of rules. Last time i picked cards and I didn't use half of them in my deck or I ordered too many. I have no idea what works best with each other and hate wasting money. The last 3 days I have been going around asking what cards might work together to make a killer sanguine bond deck. Here is the catch. You can only use the cards I have listed. Some i currently own and some i will probably buy online. I really don't want to spend a ton of money, but I don't want it to be cheap. Make the best deck that you can from this list of cards. I don't know how to award points, but I will check every day to see how things are going. I will be using it to play vs my many friends that play magic and it does not have to fall into any legal standards. I am just blown away at all the options =( HELP lol Oh and the only card you HAVE TO INCLUDE is however many sanguine bonds you might think it will take since that is my deck build.
Try to keep it around 60-65 cards 70 is ok but i want the main cards to show up more often.
Of course it is going to be a white black deck

Beacon of Immortality and Zuran Orb :)
Quoting my own comment from Cragus' suggestion:
"I like the cards, but as Setherial says, its very fragile.
A disenchant or a "players-can't-gain-life"-card or simply a deck with a little land-destruction, and you will never get your combo going.
I actually think the biggest problem is that Sanguine is 5 mana. Even if you get it down unharmed you probably wont be able to win till 6th or 7th turn. Many decks have you annhialted by then."

Boom, Legacy infused Sanguine+Mantra combo.
The list, and ect. Is on the link... It's basically a simpler legacy build to the whole riggamaroll, but I like it.

I've been working on something similar lately. It's not quite to my liking yet, but it might help you out.
The idea is to damage yourself with Death Wish or Infernal Contract and then gain back your life with Children of Korlis or Tainted Sigil while Sanguine Bond is in play. Lots of mana accel and card search to get SB out asap. Bond of Agony as an alternative win/finish him.
Main Deck (65 cards)
Artifacts
4x Lotus Petal
2x Tainted Sigil
2x Well of Lost Dreams
4x Ornithopter
Creatures
3x Children of Korlis
Enchantments
2x Sanguine Bond
Land
5x Plains
5x Swamp
2x Fetid Heath
2x Reflecting Pool
4x Tainted Field
2x Godless Shrine
Spells
4x Rest for the Weary
4x Dark Ritual
2x Culling the Weak
2x Bond of Agony
4x Death Wish
4x Diabolic Intent
4x Infernal Contract
4x Survival Cache
Very losely designed
Sideboard
1x Tainted Sigil
1x Platinum Angel
1x Felidar Sovereign
1x War Priest of Thune
1x Children of Korlis
1x Oblivion Ring
1x Sanguine Bond
1x Vampiric Link
1x Angel's Grace
1x Beacon of Immortality
1x Linvala, Keeper of Silence
1x Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
1x Bond of Agony

This is my friend's Sanguine bond deck that I had to post here because it was a deck we feared playing for the longest time because of how obnoxious it was...

hey guys, i've been busy with family issues and havent had a chance to really reply or to sit down and sort out the cards I think I want. There are some really great ideas, and the one about hurting yourself to gain life is pretty cool. I need to sit down and put cards in their right places that way I have some of each kind so I can protect myself. Well of dreams (i think it's called really sparks my intrest) because you can really blow through some cards and then I might actually want to return cards from my graveyard to play or to my hand. I mean once you get so high in life you really just need to get the cards you want in play. I was also thinking about using wall of reverence(sp) with the well and with one Empyrial Plate for the at the end of turn add life to yours based on the power of a creature. I can put my plate on a creature and gain life that way. I'm looking at everything...As long as Wall of Reverence at the end of turn...will i get to add the health if I have more than 7 card in hand or will I actually discard first? (end of turn is where you discard right) so would I still get the life?
I also came up with this combo or it seems pretty cool. Use the well artifact and life gain to draw cards and then use Martyr of Sands to gain a lot of life for each white card in my hand :) that with sanguine bond can be pretty nasty I think or just as a life boost. Also it might be too much work for no reason haha
BUt then again I might not even want to use that artifact at all haha
Response to what proto posted above me
Dolmen Gate; is this card what I think it is? I attack and still deal damage and gain life if they had lifelink, yet none of my creatures get any combat damage? If so...that's nice ...If that's the case could a 1/1 death touch creature with Dolmen Gate out kill a 10/10 and live due to the fact my 1/1 will take no damage, but I will still get my hit.
I came across Ad Nauseam and mortify are pretty cool. is there any other better options than disenchant? it's cheap and has two effects

Hey, I made my first draft of my saguine/lifegain deck. Any thoughts or ideas? Stay away from the really expensive cards. (it's white/black) Wanting to run right around 68-72 Thanks to everyone for your help with cards and such - I get mana screwed sometimes..not sure what to take out. I love the 4x Martyr of Sands 4x Serra Ascendant combo!

I've been getting some quick wins on a site I use to test the draw and play of decks. If you want to try it a bit go here.

without dark ritual it can take a lot longer to get out my beacons and my sanguines. so I don't need any fetch cards for my enchantments when running this deck? I do love the well + lifegain = draw a bunch of cards then use another martyr to boost more life before I discard. Do you think it's looking ok how it is?

The problem with dark ritual is that it is serious card disadvantage. It's not that I don't understand the power of the card, I run a legacy eva green deck and my best possible opening is swamp+Dark Ritual+ThoughtSeize+Hymn to Tourach. That leaves me with 3 cards left of which 1 should be land and my opponent with 4 but I potentially wrecked him. Depending on the 2 remaining business cards I'm holding I have a good chance of winning.
In your case however dark ritual just produces mana at the cost of a card and does not disable your opponent. A Turn 2 Well of Lost dreams might be ok to recover your disadvantage in a few turns time but still, not that good.
Also you don't have that many cards that can use the black mana.
Bottom line, it's just not that good. If you need time just stall for time by playing more solutions to what your opponent is throwing at you so you survive a longer game. A deck playing Sanguine Bond and Beacon should not be hoping for a quick win.

i see...So I need to think about the big picture...so I should what go or more spells and counter type cards vs having dark rituals?
What other cards would you suggest or taking out?do i need more any card fetch cards?some are legal and some arent and the ones that cost like 2 mana and 2 life are 100+ dollars....UHG!
Anyone else at all have suggestions for my deck?
Would this card be smart to have 4 of??? or 3 Vigilant Martyr it keeps my main focus alive if targeted and is very cheap to get out and use...also it has a second interesting ability..what yall think?
Orim's Chant uhg...so expensive but this card is amazing....

what is a good method to find out how much mana to run and what percentage? I have right now White shows up 43 times and black shows up 25 times with 3 colorless mana.

I've heard that a good estimation is one land per every two mana symbols, but I don't know. Your deck looks like it's a fairly high mana cost deck. You ever think of throwing four cloudposts in there?

Thanks to Seth it works a lot better. I changed what cards I ran with made the mana cost lower and the theme is still supported. He showed me about the signets and that really helped. Im also going to get some lands that I can pay 1 health and tap either b or w mana, or just use it as a colorless. My mana should be fine :)

I was surprised when i saw your list of cards that we could use did not include tendrils of corruption, while it wouldn't work in your black/white version its amazing in an all black lifegain/sanguine deck. I will upload my vampire deck that is specifically that. Although its very cheap, adding vampire nocturnus will make it faster, and subbing blood tribute for corrupt with sanguine bond is instant win, just giving you some choices. Well here's my deck.

Lots of life gain spells so the lacerator and sign in blood have no effect virtually. Playtest it and tell me what you think!

Hi mate!
Sorry it doesn't comply with your list, but I also love the card Sanguine Bond, and have made a deck to my liking based upon its use.
Take a look and see what you think...
