Noob question
Can someone please explain in detail what exactly all the types (like type 2, etc.) are, just so I know? I mean, that's the only thing I don't understand...

Type 2 = Standard = the Most recent two blocks and the most recent core set. Ex: Lorwyn-Shadowmoor block, Shards of Alara block, and Tenth Edition are type 2 right now.
Type 1.x = Extended = The 7 most recent blocks and the corresponding coresets. Ex: From Onslaught block to Shards of Alara blocks, and from 7th edition to Tenth are all Extended Legal.
Type 1.5 = Legacy = A format with all sets legal, but with its own banned and restricted lists.
Type 1 = Vintage = A format with all sets legal, but has a far less stringent banlist and restricted list than Legacy.
Hope that helps!

Actually, Extended is all Core sets, Eighth through Tenth. Seventh is not Type 1.X legal.
