"Return" or "Put" cards
Hello, it`s been a really long time since i`ve wondered about this. Everyone i know, who had cards like Zombify (Return target creature card from your graveyard to play), or right now Dread Return (Return target creature card from your graveyard to play), have been discarding creature cards or the like, and putting them into play with either Zombify or Dread Return.
My question is, is that really correct to do so?
Since there are cards like Victimize, that say: Put two creature cards from graveyard to play tapped. Which should mean that a creature didn`t have to be on the field before, but Zombify clearly states: Return. Which should mean, that that one creature had to have been on the field before it can be returned back on it from the graveyard.
I know this is a way of speech, but how can you return something if it hasn`t been there in the first place? Wouldn`t that make these cards broken?

As far as I know if it's in the gaveyard you can use those cards on it, whether they died or were milled or discarded.
