Neither of your creatures would die. They would also be able to get stronger, although it may be harder for Protean Hydra due to unblockable and shroud. Still, it could get bigger. If you want, I'm sure someone can go into details as to why...but I'm fairly tired right now *yawn*.

no it does not die, it cannot be targeted that's all. so the natural abilities of your creature still work. that's the whole point of shroud, it can't be the TARGET of spells or abilities (you can't enchant or use other creatures to beef him up either)

basically nothing with the words "Target Creature" will work on him.

And since neither your hydra or your primalcrux use "target" but rather the creature's name, there's nothing stopping them from getting bigger.

Neither one of those creatures target themselves, they simply make a statement which affects how the game plays out. Primalcrux for example doesn't target itself to change it's power, it merely makes the statement that it's power IS whatever X is, effectively altering the game's rules.
