MTG Vault Bugs & Suggestions
Account payment diminishes "fake accounts"
I've had a chance to look a little at mtggoldfish.
They have two options:
1: posting anonymous.
You can post decks with descriptions but can't return to the deck.
2: the full package.
You probably pay a small monthly fee, you get to upvote decks you like and have a deck storage.
Since I've started to build decks on mtggoldfish as an anonymous user, the trolls have been trying to spam my decks over, but because they don't want to pay the fee for multiple fake accounts, residents are upvoting my stuff enough for it to resurface after an episode of spam.
Getting money from both commercials and a small monthly fee will also enable you to increase your staff, which would allow you to get article writers, gameplay videos and everything else that mtggoldfish have.
The trolls will have no other option than to leave, finding a better platform.
They might still spam this place as anonymous users, but at least a certain number of other users will be upvoting the good stuff and good users.

Having studied the spam patterns on mtggoldfish.com I no longer think that they demand payment there, or at least the spammers have learned how to run from the bill.
I've launched articles there that were quickly spammed away.
The approach is similar to what's been done in the past here, the spammers upvote their own spam by using fake accounts to upvote them. There was a pretty constant flow of "one deck" users. Any deck posted I simply wrote down the username and then searched for decks made by that username.
Apart from the spam that got all the upvotes, the majority of users only had a single deck.
This is something you can test out yourself.
Simply post a good deck there anonymously, then wait for an hour, and voila, your deck is gone from page 1.
Then go through all of the decks covering yours, those users closest to your post will only have 1 deck, while the most fresh decks on the list will be users who has many upvotes and many decks.
It's almost the same model they've been using here.
I'd suggest you contact the site about a collaboration.
Meanwhile I'll be working at warning their users by telling them about how their site is being manipulated.
Naturally I do it by posting decks with deckdescription followed by the warning.
The team has been hard pressed by my preliminary warnings, and as I wrote earlier, you would see a drop in activity in here during my first test of their wall of spam...
We had only two active deckpages at the height of my probing, now, where I've given them a small break, we have 5 active pages.
I'll give a small heads up about my next effort, and frankly, they will have to really work for it next time.
Checking in each hour to spam things over will not be anywhere near what they will need to do to cover my articles.
Since they will be forced to patrol the site frequently they can't be here as well, so a similar drop of activity will be seen once more.
During my youth, when I ran a lot of simulations I discovered that I could wake up every hour without the use of an alarm clock to register the results of the simulation which took about an hour to run. I'm pretty sure I can still perform that stunt, so I can put a 24 hour siege on our trolls at that place.
They'll have a living hell heading right at them ;)

And boy are they dumb, they quickly made extra decks with a bunch of their accounts to avoid having just 1 deck there, now I'm pretty much onto their kodenames.
Idiots :)
A couple of new ideas mingled with old stuff.
Just because I've deleted the lists with names on mtgvault doesn't mean that I got no physical backup.

So...
The deck spammers have been wrecking decks all over mtggoldfish for a couple of days, probably to pose as ordinary trolls and sow doubts about what's going on there.
They are probably also trying to rethink their code names, because if I suddenly launched a list of those on mtggoldfish they'd have to rework everything.
They've tried to be active on mtgvault as well, but only as a "show of strength", but frankly, they can't put their full attention on both sites.
So, I'm launching more warnings on mtggoldfish, which should mean that there will be a drop of activity in here...

On mtggoldfish, my warnings are now being kept on top of the new posts, which is a sign that the spammers don't dominate the trafic there.
I think I'll start up a few links to future posts in here, to attract new blood for mtgvault.
I still think you should reach out to them, as the spammers use your place as a spam factory because you have the better search engine.
Neither you or them needs spammers, so whatever solution they've got, you might be able to imitate, making your site less attractive for the trolls.
Think about it, does it benefit anyone but the trolls to be able to use your search engine to search for an exact number of views???
Since my last attack on the trolls views archive 111, 222, 333, 444, 555, 666, 777, 888 and 999, they've decided to camp out on views 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800 and 900.
You can kill of one of their most used tools by striking at that system...
You got 9 solid trolls, each of them "owning" a number.
I'm thinking of starting to attack the viewsarchive of just one troll, that way an infight might break out between them.

So, after trying to spam my messages on mtggoldfish, our spammers have returned to rage here because of their obvious failure.
You might have noticed that we've jumped from having 3 active pages to having more than 10 active pages.
At least I hope you notice it.

Right now we're at only 2 active pages because the spammers are setting up camp at mtggoldfish.
They use an old identifier there that they've been using for years in here, using "dual names".
Creating decknames like "turbo permission" they can hide two real names (bo and per) in the deck identifying it as spam for the others.
As soon as you reach a certain level of use, spotting them becomes second nature, so the spammers can identify each other with ease, and when searching for the single names they get a small personal archive to work with.
Sometimes, in order to fit two names into a deckname they need to make a spelling error on purpose which is why they have created a fake troll whose role is to play a degenerate who can't spell, to camouflage their other misspell as just fast typos. The spelling of that troll character is so "bad" that it sorts of diminishes the other misspell so you don't think twice of them.
Here are some examples of fictive decknames using the two name system
"Tiamatt's control" (Tia and Matt creating a misspelled tiamat)
"Weekend at Bernie's" (Ken and bernie)
"Teaparty on the niles" (arty and niles)
Ofcourse it doesn't end with names.
Since 2008 the spammers have been using combinations of things, names, animals, rare letter combinations abbreviations acronyms, anagrams and a fucking lot more.
Decknames and usernames have been used like this and recently they've been having fun at using numbers and also their usual codes in reverse.
