The general idea was to make this a control deck using the monarch mechanic to grind out card advantage. I agree that monarch isn't terribly efficient in the grand scheme of things, but I think it will be good enough against the pool of decks "Alanmar" is going to be matched up against.

Yup, my playgroup uses decks around $40. Legality is *very* flexible with us, so Brainstorm is just fine with me. I'm fine diluting the monarch mechanic as long as it remains a prominent theme. What do you suggest?
Do you think something like this would work a bit better?
Good point. The mana base is a little tricky, because my playgroup sticks to budget decks. I'll see what I can do, though. Thanks though :)
You're right about that. It's easy to forget how helpful mana rocks can be.
Good call on the Storyteller. Unfortunately, Heroic Intervention is out of the budget.
Because some demons just want to watch Sigil burn...
Thank you :)
I agree with you; card draw and some reanimation are solid ideas, and having more ways to fuel delirium is a great plan. I'm not a big fan of Haakon, but that has nothing to do with him being bad and everything to do with my general dislike for zombies. As for why I'm keen on Knight of the Last Breath, I have a certain fondness for awkward cards that still do something.
Actually, I'm trying to build around Knight of the Last Breath. If you have any advice on doing so, I'd love to hear it. Thank you :)
Thanks, I'm glad you like it :)
I only went with two redcaps Vannifar can tutor it up by sacrificing a Finks or Opportunist, and Viscera Seer can scry it to the top if the Biomancer/Finks combo is online.
Thank you!
Yeah, but Sultai instead of Selesnya. GW Bogles can stall out pretty hard with just a couple of bad draws (at least from my experience), so I figured adding some scrying and card draw would help with that problem. I'm sure there's a better way to build a deck like this, but it seemed like a fun idea to try out :)
Good call. Thank you :)
If my play group ran more sweepers, I'd be inclined to sideboard in No Rest for the Wicked. As it stands, it's all spot removal, but if that changes No Rest is definitely going in.Disturbing Plot is a good catch. I should've remembered it, as often as I drafted Lorwyn block. I'll try out both it and Echoing Return to see which runs better in the deck.
Thank you :)Fate Reversal is just a bit of filler. I often know what I'm looking for (revival), but rarely do I know the optimal choice given my deckbuilding restrictions. I think swapping it out is a good idea. What do you think of Echoing Return?
Grapple With the Past could work better than Corpse Churn.
That's awesome! After playing a few games with this deck, the amount of mana require for some of the spells can feel a little much sometimes. Some on-brand mana dorks will be great. Thanks for the suggestion :)
I use the "concept" tag to indicate the theme decks my playgroup likes to use. We do a lot of two-headed giant games where our decks are thematically linked in some way.A bit silly, perhaps, but we have fun with it :)
