Deck Description

Exile pacts with you Nivmagus, so you don't die next turn!

I built this deck, because I originally thought about making an infinitely strong Nivmagus, by copying a copy spell repeatedly. While I was researching to see if it was possible (which it isn't), I remembered pacts. They costed 0 mana, so I could play as many of them as I wanted. And then if I exiled them, they wouldn't resolve, and I wouldn't have to pay the mana. So now, the Nivmagus is strong, but I won't be able to swing for the win. I thought about attacking for 10, then flinging for the last 10 damage, but that wouldn't be very reliable. Double strike or infect would work, though. And I could use Apostle's Blessing to make it unblockable. It's perfect. Now I can win second turn, and if I don't... well if I don't, let's just hope I won't be dead by third turn. :)

I added Kiln Fiend and Flamekin Harbinger in case I don't get the Nivmagus. Thoughtseize and Apostle's Blessing are for defense. Assault Strobe and Tainted Strike allow for a second turn win. Obviously, the pacts are for exiling. Gut Shot is for when the opponent has a 1/1 chump blocker that needs to be disposed of, and Noxious Revival is for when Nivmagus is dead, and I don't have any other creatures. Both of those can still be exiled.

I'm limiting the deck to modern, but there is no budget. However, it would be nice if it was a bit cheaper. I would like the deck to remain Rakdos colors, but if there are really good non-Rakdos cards, I'm open to suggestions.

I have not yet playtested, as I'm way to cheap to buy this deck, so I'm not sure how it plays. I'm guessing that 17 lands is enough, because most of the spells in this deck cost nothing to play, and the only card I'll be playing for 2 mana is the Kiln Fiend. Try to hold back on playing all your spells until you know you can win, because unless you have an Apostle's blessing, Nivmagus dies really easily. If you have a Nivmagus in your hand, don't bother with the Flamekin Harbinger, unless your Nivmagus dies. The perfect hand/cards to draw contains a Nivmagus, 4 pacts, Tainted Strike, Apostle's Blessing, and 2 lands.

How to Play

Game plan: Play the Nivmagus. Dump all the pacts, and exile them all for hopefully a 9/10 or 11/12 Nivmagus. Use Assault Strobe if he's 11/12, or Tainted Strike if he's 9/10. Use Gut Shot or Apostle's Blessing to eliminate any chance your opponents might have at blocking. Keep in mind that you can let the some of the pacts resolve if you need to, if you know you'll win before the next turn.

Deck discussion for Rakdos Nivmagus 2nd Turn Win

Okay, now I'm not sure which of your decks is my favorite... this one's AWESOME! Great concept, seems VERY reliable (on your end), and as far as I know is original. Very nice work, a masterpiece even!

The only possible additions I could suggest would be checking out other cards out there that aren't necessarily CMC 0, but can be played for free, like the Shoals (particularly the red one) or counterspells like Misdirection. Maxing Noxious Revival may also be a good idea in that you might want to use a certain spell in your graveyard twice, such as Assault Strobe.

Hey, yeah thanks. I was sick today, so I stayed home from school. I was tired of sleeping, so I quickly threw this deck together in like an hour but I didn't really get enough time to check out other cards. What are shoals? Can you think of any other cards that I can cast for free?

I know lots, but I can't think of them all on the spot. Give me some time to list a few out. I gotchu, Bro! First, answer me this: do you wish to keep this deck modern legal?

Yeah, I think so. Since it's possible to get a turn 2 win, it might actually do okay in modern, so I don't really want it in legacy/vintage. But if you do find cards that aren't modern, feel free to comment on those, because they are still interesting.

I don't think I'll add any of those, because they either require me to sacrifice lands or discard, which I cannot really afford.

Yeah, besides the red Shoal, blue Shoal, and some of the Trap cards, I don't think they were good choices either. Doesn't hurt to look though.

Very interesting idea. Have you been able to play test it yet? Curious if it is consistent.

I have not been able to playtest it, as I will never be willing to pay that much money. However, from doing the MtgVault "Draw Sample Hand," I was able to get a 2nd turn win fairly often, and a third turn win very often. Also, since Nivmagus's effect lasts indefinitely, if I don't win by third turn I might be able to win after. I can also use Slaughter Pact, Pact of Negation, Gut Shot, Apostle's blessing, and Thoughtseize to make it more likely that an opponent won't have anything to stop me with.

I like this idea, If I were to change anything I would drop the 3 summoner's pact. I don't see them being good with the kiln fiend games. I think more gut shots, noxious revivals would be better and I would add one more Kiln Fiend for more consistant first hand draws
like say 10/60 16% to draw the needed cards in turn 1.

The reason why I don't play four Kiln Fiend, is because if I draw a Kiln Fiend and a Nivmagus, then I most likely will not be able to win 2nd turn. The main reason for running summoner's pact is for flavor. If I were to actually make this deck, I probably wouldn't run it, and do exactly what you said, Run more Gut Shots and Noxious Revivals. Also, maybe Mutagenic Growth.

Fair enough, I might try this deck a few times see how it runs. If I will I will hit ya up with results.

Yeah, I'll add that. I wish they hadn't banned Gitaxian Probe - would've been perfect.
