A few months ago, my buddies and I got to play a team game. There was 6 of us, 3 headed giant with each deck having its own life total instead of one massive pool. A few of us were knocked out early on. They ganged up to take out our strong decks and remove us as a threat, or at least that's what I keep telling myself since I was one of the first eliminated. We sat around and cracked jokes at the game while having a few drinks. Good times, but we didn't get much play time the first game. When we switched up the teams for the second game, I threw in the idea of adding in a new rule. Bringing back eliminated players when your team eliminates an opponents deck. Cut off a head to bring one back, our Hydra Format was born.. The first game went for a few hours before someone was able to pull off a massive finisher combo. We had a lot of fun and a lot of laughs. We've tried it 2v2, 3v3, and 3 teams of 2. All of them were a load of fun. If you have a group of friends that just want to play and have a lot of time to kill, I hope you try this game style out and let me know how it goes for you.
The how to on this is simple.Two/Three Headed Giant game play with individual life totals per deck, and you can choose which player to attack. When your team eliminates an opponent, one of your eliminated team members can rejoin the game as if he had just started playing. You may allow a deck switch when eliminated or force them to restart with the same deck, up to you. We've found that it requires a new strategy/deck thrown into the game to pull off a win sometimes and have had a lot of fun switching between decks during the game.
