I just wanted to do a deck spotlight on one of my favorite decks of all time, Skred Red. I'm guessing most of you are asking yourselves, "How the hell can a deck be a control deck if it's Mono Red?" Well, here it is.
This deck plays much like a classic blue control deck, just without the counter spells. It also has some mana ramp in the for of Simian Spirit Guide and Mind Stone, which is only here to fill some wholes in our curve. Now how is it a control deck? Well, this deck already runs 11 removal spell, 5 of which are board wipes, to keep creatures your opponents control at bay. This allows us to stall the early game like most classic control decks do so we can eventually get to play game-locking spells like Blood Moon and Magus of the Moon. These cards hose greedy mana bases (of which a vast majority of Modern is composed of) to make way for us to play our win conditions, Koth of the Hammer and Stormbreath Dragon. Boros Reckoner is here to get some value off the 5 board wipes we have, and Relic of Progenitus is here for some graveyard hate against those decks that abuse the graveyard.
