Do you hate blue players? Do you like the attrition-like nature of the classic Abzan and Jund decks? Do you like the resilience of Abzan, but the flexibility of Jund? Do you like to lose less life than either deck does to Dark Confidant? Ladies and gentlemen, I give you: Dune Midrange. It has the resilience of Abzan and the flexibility of Jund, without having to keep a high mana curve because you have access to both red & white, and not just one or the other. This means that you will never be killed by your own Dark Confidant, and you will rarely be mana-screwed.
Abzan and Jund are both Golgari midranged strategies: essentially these decks revolve around ripping apart their opponents' strategies with hand disruption and removal, while simultaneously trying to accelerate their own board position with card advantage. Dune Midrange isn't much different.Step 1: Slow your opponents down. This can be done early-game with discard spells like Inquisition of Kozilek and Thoughtseize, or mid to late-game with removal spells.Step 2: Out-value your opponent. Play your efficient threats, Tarmogoyf and Scavenging Ooze, to put your opponents on a clock. They are particularly good because they also get bigger as you continue to interact with your opponents, and things go to the graveyard.Step 3: Beat your opponent's face. Attack with your Tarmogoyfs and Scavenging Oozes while generating card advantage with Dark Confidant to be as resilient as possible, and interact with your opponent to keep your game plan alive.Have fun!
