Deck discussion for esper control

I can see this being a pain the arse. I also like your SB, from what I can see your meta must be much like mine.

highly recommend a jace, but you have a lot of control, so only one should do.

Not to be mean, zack. But how are you going to play murderous cut and complete disregard? Again not trying to be rude, im just asking because you added no swamps.

thanks!!! I am worried about surviving til turn 5 to cast planar outburst, but I think I curve well with my counterspells. turn 2 clash of wills, turn 3 scatter to the winds, turn 4 counter/hangarback

so I traded in my expedition and got this whole deck... I know that sounds crazy but I wasn't down for 250$-300$ for my standard deck and I don't even know how good it is yet

I've done 2 FNM's. I do them at the Toy Vault. I stopped because I always lose. Standard can be harsh, y'know. 'Specially with three sets dropping.

+1 from me, zak. At first glace I was a little worried that you had too many lands, but I see you can prevent mana flooding with your awaken and X-spells. Very nice. Hope you win tonight at your FNM!

thanks! yea really high on the lands hoping to curve out well, I want to see like 10 a game so this seemed reasonable. the blighted lands draw me cards and the coves gain me life, im hoping this keeps me in games. I have a solid curve to keep myself alive I think

It is a good deck, but i recomend you meet the 60 card standard. Great deck. Although it could use more awaken, or more creatures, because most of your negate spells wont be used on the turn stated.

0

Yes, as i said it is a really good deck. But i think you should use the extra 4 card-slots you have to add creatures or more cards with awaken. Or a card like secure the wastes that gets creatures out there.

Highly reccomend tamiyo, the moon sage, secure the wastes, or a Jace.

Ojutai, the Soul of Winter, Dragonlord Ojutai, Icefall Regent and Silumgar's Scorn could go in here really well.

I do kind of agree, merging this deck with esper dragons....

0
Posted 12 October 2015 at 06:49

Yeah, your right. To fill in the extra 4 slots. Although with only 3 dragons you'd have to be lucky to have a dragon when you cast silumgars scorn.

This list is a blatant copy of Will Erker's deck from SCGIndy that Jim Davis wrote about on Starcitygames this week. The only difference is trimming several cards for a playset of Hangarback Walker which honestly only makes the deck worse.

If you're going to copy something give them some credit in the description.

well thanks for being a dick, but i never claimed its mine. also the colorado springs IQ had 2 UW control lists in their top 16. thanks for trying, but i'm running an archetype, not claiming credit on someone elses deck

0

I mean sure you can say that, but just 4 cards different? I would consider playing U/W with 4 Planar Outbursts and 4 Scatter to the Winds as your wincons to be the same archetype. The same number of Anticipates, Celestial Flares, Secure the Wastes, Horribly Awry, Ojutai's Commands (without Jace) and all the other slightly niche cards cannot be a coincidence. It's not even early enough to call it an established archetype if there's only 3 decks in events that you can compare it to. Oh and the sideboard is nearly identical.

Maybe I am being a dick. I accept that. All I'm asking is that you provide a source in the description.

I mean if three guys show up 4 cards off who do I say I'm using as my source?? I don't dislike you, you post good stuff normally but it's kind off an odd line I looked a th Colorado Springs lists and the indiapolis lists, all similar. Tweeted for my meta and ran this. Not claiming its original at all

I don't dislike you, you usually post fine things, but there were three lists last weekend off by 5-6 cards. I looked at them all and tweeked. Not sure if you just want me to credit all the lists? I never advertised this list, so I never wrote a discription, surprised it made the hot list or got any attention. I do copy lists on to the vault to keep for reference on occasion but people never really like them or comment

yes I am actually in progress on that now. I think haaving the ability to run murderous cut, silumgar drifting death, tasigur, and complete disregard/ruinous path will put me on par with the other tier one decks.

lol I got 2nd at Gameday and 9th at Alabama States with my version http://www.mtgvault.com/justinisthecrazy/decks/uw-control-2/ all about how to pilot it. The match I lost that cost me top 8 was to a Dramoka's command abzan deck. So, I think I may need to mainboard the dispel. also the Ojutai's command feel weak. I may cut them.

1
Posted 27 October 2015 at 18:29

I like it for the most part. Though, Ojutai's Command may not be the right fit since one mode can't be used. Perhaps, Noyan Dar would be a nice addition?

Also, in response to another commenter, I wouldn't splash black. The current standard is going to be heavily influenced by who can make their mana base work the best for their strategy, so making it one degree more complex may not be the way to go. For more removal, add Stasis Snare or Silkwrap; quick and exile effects do matter. Both of these don't care how big the creature is, though, Silkwrap is better against aggro.

Complete Disregard is nice, but worse against midrange; GW/Bant Megamorph will find it easy to evade if you don't have the counterspell for Dromoka's Command. A Hardened Scales deck would be a tough matchup, too.

That being said, I like the smattering of 1-of's. Another Dig or Anticipate may be in order since you'll want to search for the right response.

Sorry guys I have been preparing for states, I gave a guy I know this deck (he really liked it through playtesting. went to a 60 man states, I ended up running the URWG dragons list from the pro tour, almost to a tee. I finished 4-2 but out of top 8, and he went 1-3 and drop. it was the slowest thing in the room. there were a lot of games where a turn 5 planar outburst almost wins him the games by itself. solid deck with the light black splash, but the format may need to slow down a bit, or we get better/cheaper instant speed removal.

Thanks for the report! People were thinking this deck might be a big problem, but that R/G decks in this format are so fast!

Learn to pilot it better! It isn't slow. My lost plays an aggro heavy meta and does fine. You need Gideon

0

"my lost plays an agro meta"? not sure what you mean bub. Gideon would be a good addition, but it still feels slow agains jeskai black, abzan red, atarka red, landfall, tokens of any sort. and its threats aren't as good as esper dragons or 4c dragons

0
Posted 23 October 2015 at 15:09

I piloted it to 2nd in Game Day and 9th in Alabama states. it's only bad matchup is decks running Dromakas commands

Silkwrap, Stasis Snare, are must includes for the removal package.

0

Being able to Stasis Snare a Mantis Rider, Gideon, Sarkhan, or really any big potential threat is great.

Silk Wrap is argueably the best removal in the format.

So zak. How's esper control been working out for you in standard? Any plans to update it with Oath cards? In the meantime, since you're one of the few Modern people running around, I was hoping you could take a look at the new version of hatebears since twin and titan decks are gone: http://www.mtgvault.com/tleung84633/decks/teddy-bear-hug/

I really do need to update this list. I've run it at 2 events in the last couple months. One event I played 2 atarka red in a row and really got blown up by them. Another event I felt like I couldn't draw a bad card and ended up 4-0. List needs an update I've gone much more enchantment heavy as of late. I'll be taking a look at your list I'm very excited about death and taxes in modern!

Aye the enchantment control deck is real more people should play it, seeing as its worst matchup is tokens. Nobody plays tokens though.
