Deck Description

So this is alot of the normal "affinity" scheme (even though i run no cards with affinity) you want to drop as many artifacts as you can, and use arcbound ravager, wurmcoil engine, and cranial plating to pump in as much damage as humanly possible. i have added batterskull and wurmcoil to use with chief engineer

How to Play

Turn 1- play 2 menmite, 2 ornithopter, mox opal, darksteel citadel. tap opal, tap citadel to play chief engineer. tap all 5 creatures to play batterskull.

And that is how you turn 1 a batterskull. obviously musch easier turn 2-3, but you get the idea

Deck discussion for Chief Engineer Affinity

Shrapnel Blast and Scuttling Doom Engine. Swing, sac to blast, 17 damage. Get wrecked.
I would run Springleaf Drums over Batterskull. A little unoriginal, but it does good things. In addition to speeding up hand pooping it counts towards cranial plating and is another turn 1 drop that fixes mana.
I tried running steel overseer in my legacy affinity, but he just seems too slow for what the deck wants to do. Does he work well in modern? I would finish the playset of etched champions and mainboard 2 ethersworn canonist. Canonist or Dispatch.
Other than that looks good. I don't play a whole lot of modern, but if I did I'd likely run affinity.

The only thing that makes affinity viable in legacy or modern is it's stupidly fast aggro capablility. Chief Engineer definitely makes playing bigger things possible, like a turn 1 master of etherium as a 5/5. But you gotta be careful, you don't want to swamp your hand and draws with too many things you can't play simply because you lack engineer, whether he was removed or you didn't draw him.
Thoughtcast is also an option, over what I don't know. But it's usually one blue mana for two cards.

that is true, thats really why i only played 4 cards over the average affinity high of 3CMC

All of the following is my opinion but what I would take to a ptq
Sideboard;
3x Thoughtseize
2x Thorn of Amethyst
2x Spellskite
2-3 Spell Pierce
4x Dispatch
Mainboard
2-3 Thoughtcast over Serum Visions
2 more Vault Skirge over 1 Overseer and 1 Batterskull.

Let me know how chief engineer runs in modern, I know I crushed people with mine in legacy.

I also would try to find room for 2 springleaf drums mainboard, because color fixing is important. And turning ornithopters and memnites into turn 1 mana is good.

Type your deck name...Thanks! im trying to work them in, cutting to two batterskulls seems smart. so what do i remove against control for thorn? how exactly does the pithing needle work vs combo? sideboarding is my biggest issue here

I actually am thinking Illness in the Ranks is better than Thorn. Stops Blitterblossom and Splintertwin.
1 black mana and all tokens get -1/-1. Enchantment, so they have to deal with it once it's there.
Basically, if I were to go to a modern ptq with this deck my sideboard would look like this;
2x Illness in the Ranks
1x Thorn of Amethyst
2x Spellskite
2x Spell Pierce
2x Dismember
3x Thoughtseize
3x Whipflare

I'm not going to pretend to know what the modern meta is, I only know of splintertwin and blitterblossom. Illness in the ranks is just a giant middle finger to both of those. I run Spell Pierce and Thoughtseize in legacy, so it can't be terrible in modern right?

Turn 1 stop infinite token nonsense, they probably don't have enchantment hate. That is called winning.
