Deck Description

Have you heard of Barely Boros? Well this is an idea gleaned from that line of thought. It is a white Devotion deck with a dribble of black. The deck has plenty of speed and can power out onto the battle field fast and really clobber opponents. Unlike many of these types of decks, however, it has the ability to hang into the late game with cards like Blood Baron and Elspeth. It also has the ability to play a more control oriented game after the sideboarding. Judges Familiar does great work to slow down control, and can be a surprise counter with Orzhov Charm. Rootborn Defenses protects an invested board state from board wipes. Thoughtseize and Doom Blade give this deck a great way to deal with this decks biggest weakness; Stormbreath Dragon. I have considered throwing out Doom Blade for Hero's Downfall, but the price to cast that spell is too tough for this build.

How to Play

It plays like almost any other white weenie deck, but it can also ramp into huge early plays like blood baron and angel of serenity when using the shrine.

Deck discussion for B/W Devotion

I would look maybe into adding in Gift of Orzhova, it's a very powerful enchantment that also gives in 2 for white devotion, and even 2 for Black devotion incase it's required.

Thanks for the comment! Gift of Orzhova was in the original cut of the deck, but I took it out pretty quickly. It just doesn't have the same punch as many of the other three drops (all of which provide at least double white for devotion anyways).

Very interesting... ...I'd add 2 Guildgates in place of 2 Plains just to stabilese it... ...would also change the pozition from sideboard to mainboard between 3 Thoughtseize, 2 Blessing & 1 Elements...

Heliod is best combined with Ajani's Chosen, since all the enchantment creatures Heliod makes triggers Chosen's ability... ...I have a white devotion deck for home gaming... ...Nykthos used with Heliod while Chosen is also on board makes so many tokens, you can come back after multiple wipes.......

Here's the deck, it might be of help: http://www.mtgvault.com/poetmasterx/decks/chosen-by-the-spear/

Here's my Orzhov control-aggro, it might could help too: http://www.mtgvault.com/poetmasterx/decks/the-fallen-divine/

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I'll try out the Ajani's chosen and see how I like it. I have been thinking about tossing I, the gates, but so far I haven't tried it. As far as the switch around, the reason for not main boarding the thoughseize is mainly a style choice. I want to be able to function as an aggro deck right out of the gate and then be able to go into stabalize mode after boarding if I need to.

I like your deck. It is giving me ideas for the future. btw, if you have time, maybe check my lifelink orzhov and tell me what you think? I am pretty new to mtg, I just like collecting it but I want to play better now :) http://www.mtgvault.com/humstuckmtg/decks/1-orzhov-lifelink/

I very much like the idea of the deck. However, I do not like the mana curve that much and I think the majority of the time blessing is literally just giving the opponent a free two for one. I know that the amount of devotion it gives is ideal, however I do not feel that it is worth said possibility. I would like to point you towards blind devotion and/or imposing sovereign as possible alternatives. These both accomplish the same thing and give you a valuable amount of tempo since your early game is quite active, and they don't give your opponent an opportunity to pick up the dreaded two for one. I think imposing sovereign is a particularly good choice, as it is another 2 power creature.

Yeah...blessing has been booted. I replaced it with the sovreigns. they will do for now. Good call.

Where is you life gain for the baron?

it doesn't need it. Baron is played regardless of other lifegain because it's a 4/4 with lifelink and pro w/b. (the protection is what makes it). That said, he does have some lifegain. fiendslayer paladin and Soldier of the pantheon's lifegain can add up quickly in this format, especially in multiples. And of course, Baron makes its own lifegain happen

What he said. Baron is good all by his lonesome.

Honestly, i dont understand why you bother to include black, this deck would be insanely powerful just going pure whire. And either way, a card i think you guys might have overlooked is immortal servitude, it would fit RIGHT into this deck like a glove.

I included black almost exclusively for blood baron. It is pretty darned awesome. Also, without that extra touch of black, this deck is easily wrecked by a resolved stormbreath.

Don't forget Necromancer. Also consider Ajani, Caller of the Pride in you SB for those non-removal/control matchups. I would also favor Obzedat unless where you play everyone loads up on Hero's Downfall.

I am actually testing it with a pair of Necromancers now. The insurance against wrath is awesome. I didn't like ajani though. =/

I would think about putting in Banisher Priest over Fiendslayer Paladin. For this reason, you worst matchup is midrange and while you could get by with Brave the Elements it just isn't as important than having a creature removed from the board which has the same power and toughness as Paladin.

Also, I will continue to harp on SBing Smite. Arguably the best white removal card, great thing about this card is the tech move of allowing first strike damage then Smite. Let's just put it this way, if I'm running white aggro, I'm running Smite as my removal of choice.

Hmmm....hadn't really given smite any consideration. I'll try it though. I really like the paladins, but I will try the banisher priests for sure. Those things are pretty darn powerful. Mostly I am worried about losing the spped I am getting with the current set up.

Trading Paladin's for Priest's shouldn't change the speed at all. Smite in the SB is there for the Midrange matchup, how awesome is it to block a Hydra then before damage Smite. Pretty amazing eff you card.

What do you think should come out of the sideboard. I am reluctant to lose the doomblades because of Stormbreath.

You're talking about one card in an entire format, I suppose a Stormbreath would present a problem, but so would a Blood Barron. In reality you should be sporting Hero's Downfall instead of Doom Blade.
