Deck Description

Its a Mono-Black vampire deck that runs on the lord mechanic of Vampire Nocturnus.

As well as the lord, The equipment are also great win conditions. Lashwrithe on Nighthawk results in massive lifegain. The Sword of Feat and Famine allows you to hit your opponent which results in untapping your lands to keep mana open for removal and counterspells. War an Peace is simply more life gain/ life sucking.

Shadow Alley Denizen triggers from lashwrithe's black germ token, so you can play it and equip it to any vampire with intimidate and swing. All in one turn!

The deck often has a "control" feel to it, then in late game becomes very aggressive.

SideBoard:
Geth's verdict combined with Gatekeeper of Malakir allows you to remove indestructible and hexproof threats pretty easily.

Surgical extraction works well against combo decks, especially if the combo relies on a creature. Removing creatures and Surgical extracting them with this deck is easy. But in order to get rid of a birthing pod for example, you may rely on dash hopes to get it to the graveyard.

Blood Seeker is to replace Shadow Alley Denizen when playing against another black deck and also come in handy when playing against tokens.
And hexmage is for planeswalkers and other annoying junk.

And Phyrexian Obliterator....... well, he just does what he does best.

How to Play

If you are looking for some cheap alternatives, here are some cards I might suggest:
1. Dark Impostor (in place of Bloodghast). Great late game removal
2. Malakir Bloodwitch (in place of one of the lords). If you plan to swarm with vampires, this can end games :)
3. Feast of Blood (in place of Go for the Throat). You probably will have two or more vampires. Too bad this isn't an instant, but this doesn't have any constraints on artifact creature. Plus, you get life!

But a good vampire deck :) those lashies are gonna hurt XD

I ran feast of blood for awhile, but it was always too slow. Casting removal on a main phase can really mess up the curve of this deck.
I love the idea of malakir bloodwitch. I have one currently, the only downside is, i designed the deck to curve out at 4 mana. But perhaps one 5 drop wont kill me lol.

As much as i like dark imposter (i have 2), bloodghast is too strong and works too well with small pox. Not to mention that turn one denizen, followed by turn 2 bloodghast sets an amazing tempo for the rest of the match with all of the intimidation triggers.

Thanks for the advise, and yes..... the lashwrithes are absolulty brutal in this deck.

If you are not looking for budget version playing Dark Depths with Vampire Hexmage is great combination.
Inquisition of Kozilek is best card to have in your opening hand so you may want playset (and maybe single raven's crime).
Vendetta is also cheep removal but it can hurt...
How is Dash Hopes working out for you?

Dark Depths is really cool, but I want to keep this modern legal.
I would have to agree with you that Inquisition of Kozilek is a great card to have in my opening hand. I am almost just as happy to see a Shadow alley Denizen in my opening hand though. Depending on which one i start with will set the tempo for the match. But 4 Inquisitions are better, so what to side out? Maybe Sign in blood?

Dash Hopes is a beast of a card. It is a way for a mono-black deck to somewhat interact with counter magic, enchantments, and artifacts. A lot of my opponents (most who play against me often) are not willing to pay the 5 life. Because they know how fast this deck can come to life. but either way its a counter spell or 5 damage straight to the face.

Dash hopes is pretty much useless against crazy life gain though, they pay 5 life every time.

I like it ! Personally I would drop 2 lashwrithe and use atleast 2 hexmages ( 2 mana sorcery speed planeswalker killer at worst, 4/2 flying firststriker with Nocturnus out ; also lessens the chance of a non-black topdeck card). Fetchlands are awesome for mono-black , save them unless needed to shuffle deck when top card is an artifact or land ( when you've got Nocturnus out ).
