Deck Description

Mono black decks have had their way with my rear for far too long.
Because of the INSANE amount of black removal currently in standard, I'm going back to my roots and stop relying heavily on creatures.

The sideboard is what I will likely put in the main deck post-rotation to replace Shock, Chandra's Phoenix, Young Pyromancer, and Act of Treason. They will be missed.

-EDIT-
Act of Treason is here to stay!

How to Play

Deck discussion for Standard Burn (Retired)

... I would replace the Eidolon of the Great Revel with Guttersnipe. It'll help you deal more burn damage and not kill you when you play your many, many 2 mana spells.... other than that.. its a great deck.

I made this deck with the sole purpose to counter the Monoblack deck that is dominating standard right now.
Otherwise, I would run guttersnipe.
The Eidolon slows my opponents down, making them take damage for whatever they need to cast, which makes them use up a removal spell and take damage in the process.

It's true^ a thoughtseize is a lot less fun when you have to pay 4 life instead of 2.
not to mention that extra tax on sign in blood and underworld connections.

Though, funny when you win the game, after dealing 18 damage to yourself

Slows the deck down too much.
You could add in "stoke the flames" as it is over 4 cmc and you can cast it for less making it so you don't take damage from revels.

I like what it is made to do.

I'm a fan of burn decks. Have you ever thought of using chandra's spitfire? It's triggered ability goes well with decks like this.

Never thought about running Eidolon of the Great Revel in a burn deck, but I like the fact of them thinking twice before casting anything under three. With Pyromancer in play and dropping 1/1's you could run Purphoros, God of the Forge for his ability but still be able to turn him into a creature with your devotion. So, then each spell you play with Pyromancer puts a 1/1 into play then doing an added two more damage with his affect when creature enters play.

Maybe replace the acts of treason with harness by force. It has the same cmc but does just that little bit of extra for you.
