Deck discussion for First Deck

The main weakness of this deck is that it is top heavy. You have too many creatures and spells that cost 3-4-5 mana and only 20 lands. You will not be able to cast your spells on the turn they should come out, and the delay will cost you the game. You are probably playing the cards you have available which is okay to start, but add 2 or 3 more lands and drop enough creatures to get to 60 cards total. Look what each card does and see which cards work together. You play Liliana's Caress which does damage when an opponent discards, but you have no cards such as Duress to make the opponent discard, so the card does not belong in the main deck. Try and get a few more creatures that cost 1 or 2 mana so you have some early plays to make. Add some more Shocks if you have them. There are many better cards you could play, but getting a cohesive deck with a game plan in mind is the first step. Think how your deck is going to achieve victory, and what the opponent can do to stop you. Then try to make the deck reach its goal faster. Check out other Red/ Black decks on the Vault and see what everyone else is doing and why they are doing it. Have fun, ask questions and learn from your mistakes. Everyone makes bad plays, just try NOT to make it habit forming.

Deck is now much tighter . Play it a few times and see which cards aren't doing much and try new ones. Rakdos Cackler,
Lightning Mauler, Tragic Slip, Terminate, Lightning Bolt are only a few cards you could try. Also develop a sideboard of cards that solve specific problems to help your deck Ex Shatter to destroy Artifacts, more elimination such as Doom Blade and Tragic Slip. There is a number to the right of each comment with an arrow point above and below it. If you click on it and it is on your page/deck or is a comment someone made to you, you can add or subtract a rep point.

Blightning, Dash Hopes, and Terminate aren't too costly; they seem like the kind of cards that could be your style.

Having creature costs from 3-5 can be hard when starting out, but if you try to offset them with 1-3 mana cards that hinder or prevent you opponent, it can work out well.

Lastly, Cryptborn Horror is a R/B creature that is fun (and only $0.25 each / a buck for 4). Drop it after a good attack and you could have a finishing creature.

Of course, I'm happy to help!

Unrelated, if you wanted to mix it up and not spend much money, building a mono green deck can be a good choice for budget/versatility/ease of play. Cards like Fog, Giant Growth, or Naturalize give you a nice comfort in a casual deck. And it would play much different than red/balck :P

I was thinking about something like that I have some green cards. But I just got a deck builders tool kit so I might see what I can do!
