Deck Description

I'm just coming off of a long break (from just before M11 to shortly after M12) and I decided to revise one of my older decks. The idea is pretty simple: use control cards to keep my opponent on a short leash in the early game, then use Extraplanar Lens and Doubling Cube to flood the pool with mana and then spam Oona's ability for a ton of faerie tokens. The Blackguards will have them all come in with +1/+1 counters and the Coat of Arms will make them all crazy strong. Oh, and I will be simultaneously milling my opponent's deck.

I need to trim it down to 60 cards, but I can't decide what to take out. Any help would be appreciated.

Deck discussion for Faerie Swarm (help)

There are a few ideas that come to mind when I look at your deck and see what you are trying to accomplish. If you want to control your opponent then you are going to need to totally revamp your deck and add more blue. Otherwise you are wanting to make your deck faster. The doubling cube is good but only if you have 8 land out already. I would switch that card out with 4X Pristine Talisman. I would take out both of the distress and duress and add in either 4X Sign in Blood or 4X Lightning Greaves. Depends on if you want to cycle through your deck and get stuff out faster or protect your own creatures. Since you have Swiftfoot Boots already I suggest the Sign in Blood since the talisman gives you the life right back. Painters Servant can come out since you don't really have anything you are doing with it.... it's kind of useless. Add in 2X Coat of Arms. Now you are 1 under for your total deck. You can either add in a Planeswalker for the fun of it or take 3 land out and add in another filler or both.... up to you but my suggestion should make your deck faster and stronger both.

Thanks for the input. This deck used to be blue, but I found it to be too slow. Even with Ice Cages and Mana Leaks, creatures and other spells were still a problem for me. I thought if I switched to black, I'd have more options in terms of getting rid of my opponent's spells before they can use them and not have to wait with counterspells sitting in my hand.

I don't have to wait for 8 lands to use the Doubling Cubes though; the Lenses are mana acceleration and allow me to play Oona and use the Cubes a few turns early. The more Lenses I have out, the more mana I get each turn, and the more effective the Cubes become. I don't think the Talisman's would be enough mana.

Also, the Painter's Servants are necessary for the deck. Oona works best when all of the cards I exile are the same color, so multi-color decks are a problem. The Servants are a huge help here. They also affect lands if I'm not mistaken.

I do agree that the Sign in Bloods would be nice. I opted for the Tutors though so that I could get exactly the card I need instead of taking a chance, even if it does cost two more mana. I'll try to fit the SiBs in if I can make the room. I know I don't need all 16 of those anti-opponent spells, so some of them will be coming out.

I modified the deck a bit and managed to include some Sign in Bloods. It's working a little more smoothly than the first draft, but I'm still having a lot of problems with the early game in terms of defense.
