Deck Description

This deck works around the Vizkopa Guildmage/Exquisite Blood combo. The basic idea is to gain some time using the extort ability and keeping the board clean with our removals untill the combo is out.

How to Play

You can use your weenie creatures early in the game (Thrull Parasite can also help you in a long-term play cutting down your opponent's plainswalker or pestering a Simic deck) and gain some life using their extort ability. Blood Artist will help you out staying alive along with big boss Obzedat. In the meantime, your removals should be able to keep the board clean. Use Orzhov Keyrune and Crypt Ghast for mana ramp. Once you have Exquisite Blood in play, lay down your Vizkopa Guildmage (possibly using a Cavern of Souls) and activate her ability. Now you've several ways to end the game: 1-use the extort ability of one of your creatures. 2-let a creature die on your Blood Artist. 3-play a Seraph Sanctuary. 4-wait for Obzedat to bounce.

Deck discussion for Orzhov Combo

I've just build this deck for a standard "4fun" tournament: it works quite well and it's really fun to play. It suffers from heavy mass removals and heavy control decks, but... who doesn't? =) I'm looking for some hints to improve it.
Comments are welcome!

Maybe throw in one thousand lashes and bump in the night for some direct damage.

I've built a deck similar to this one check it out and tell me what you think http://www.mtgvault.com/cojack31/decks/idk-yet/

The deck seems nice, well put together!

I've recently made (And bought) an Orzhov deck of my own, but I decided to skip the combo and instead go for Army of the Damned as a finisher. I'm contemplating whether or not I want to change my deck to include the combo.

side deck enchantment removal or counter spells would wreck havoc on the deck you may want some form of anti counter or removal, making things hexproof or indestructibility is a good way to do this. but over all your deck is well thought out and has a fairly decent combo so nice deck just needs slight editing.

What's the Seraph Sanctuary for? Life gain?

Yes. Actually you can use that land as an unblockable finisher once you have Exquisite Blood and Vizkopa Guildmage in play: lay down this card to gain a single lifepoint and activate the combo. You can do this if you cannot gain lifepoints using your extort ability, Blood Artist, Orzhov Keyrune or Obzedat.
