Deck Description

I used that Control Loam as a template to start with for the Loam list I've been using since starting back into MtG. I've tidied things up a bit to match my liking, and added in Izzet Charm. That card is almost sickeningly useful.

This deck, my Fish for Modern, and my Poxless Pox deck(nineteen eighty-four) are my go-to decks for Modern for now.

Deck discussion for [Modern] Dear Ethan

I logged in, and without even checking any decks I saw "Dear Ethan" on the side. I was like "...can it be, for me?" And here it is :')

It looks solid, man. I completely forgot about this deck until now! My only concern would be abrupt decay, but apparently people aren't really running it much anymore. Who knew.

How do you find it runs, man? Izzet charm is definitely a strong addition. But, no cryptic command? :( I've recently fallen in love with cryptic <3

That is what I say to the start of that comment.

It's been going pretty steady with this deck, and Abrupt Decay is indeed the main thing I run into that shuts me down, but the great thing about this deck is that I can still control most games off of this. I've toyed with the idea of using a Worm Harvest here, but five mana is troublesome.
The fact that people are putting down Abrupt Decay really just has me confused, it's so powerful that I can't help but build Golgari for it. My guess is that they think it's going to be banned, and don't want to get too accustomed to having it.

It runs surprisingly smooth actually. I was worried at first about playing a dedicated Loam list in Modern, where I have no Mox Diamonds, and know people who actively play playsets of Dryad Militant and Deathrite Shaman, but it's doing quite well.
I had originally been going to play Cryptic Command actually, but I replaced them with Izzet Charm a while back, and it's debatable which is better here. Cryptic Command is a great card from extended, but I've never really liked paying four for it :/

yeah i dont understand why people wouldnt be playing abrupt decay. i dont know about modern but in legacy its such a complete hoser, i run into that thing constantly.

this deck looks cool though, and original. at least i have seen a list quite like this before.
flame jab and thoughtscour seem kinda janky. also 4 life from then loam might be unnecessary unless your really trying to play off seismic assault.
i dont know much about modern though

if you guys could, i could really use some help crafting this modern deck for an upcomming gp. like i said i dont really know jack about modern so i could really use some advice

Believe me, it's just as bad in Modern. I seriously think they're just afraid it's going to banned.

The deck is pretty cool, but I can't take credit for the starting frame sadly. Ethan was the one who found them first, and he made one to see if it played out in as epic a manner as it looks. I've just been a polished, and updated version of it since I've just got back into magic.

I'll try and help as I can Jack, you've always been helpful to me, and a chance to repay that has always been enjoyable!

Ethan definitely knows his stuff, he's shown me quite a lot. I think I'd be retarded about MtG without him, Sure, and Joe's help.
For a lot of the people on here it's because they don't have anybody escalating the competition level in casual for them that they don't build stuff at certain levels. If it hadn't been for one of my friends bringing in a Zombie deck, and showing us tribe synergies for aggro, I'd still be playing a terrible Azorius deck that couldn't beat the standard kids all of the time.

yeah good point/ my buddy landon was the first, of our group, to really get into pushing control decks and prison/ land destruction decks. so basically we had to up our game to deal with his concoctions.
eventually most our friends quit playing magic becuase they were sick of landon rocking them. haha

Awh, you guys are makin' me blush <3 ;)

I'm really glad you guys enjoy some of my builds, and I take this deck, and your kind words as incredible compliments. Thanks guys :)

P.s. the reason people don't play abrupt decay in modern is because it doesn't hit manlands. This is very relevant, when usually it replaces a lot of the removal slots. When you can't hit a treetop village, a raging raving, or an inkmoth nexus, you're in a really rough spots. It mightn' seem like much, but trust me, it is.

And I'd love to check out some modern decks! What GP are you going to, Alleyway?
