Update on my old Doomsday storm deck for Legacy :D

Deathmark made me raise an eyebrow, but other than that, looks fast as hell...VEEEEEERY fragile though =P

Believe it or not, I've won games because of that random Deathmark. I've zapped a Goyf so they couldn't race me, I've blasted Teeg, and same for Ethersworn Canonist. Also I like to use the Monty Python Spanish Inquisition line "POKE HIM! With the soft cushoin" When I use it :P Only an extractor would be allowed to say a combo deck running a protection suite with six counters and six selective discard cards is fragile. I've beaten TES with this by playing control, and just wishing for Telemin XD
It's not as fragile as some other designs I've seen, and it's not like the wet tissue that is ANT...but still, in my eyes, it's just one Extirpate away from a scoop =P As for Telemin...I have to admit that I've been smacked upside the head by a Telemin, and it made me laugh so hard I didn't even mind losing. What an awesome "F**K YOU" card XD Only once have I laughed harder at a card destroying a creatureless deck...and that was the day Wumps played Biorhythm against a Doomsday. http://www.myfacewhen.com/329/
http://www.myfacewhen.com/391/ Biorhythm is obnoxious no matter what deck I'm playing, almost all of mine are suicidal. Extirpate screws up almost any of my decks, that one you have to admit. Playing a game against you would be like you walking up to a baby in a pram, and tipping it over. ANT I wouldn't even really dignify that much, more or less it's a bag of chips your friend has reduced to just the crumbs. Sure it might be good sometimes, but it's generally met with an air of disappointment. Telemin is also pretty funny against Reanimator if you can push it through. Giving a storm deck Jin-Gitaxias is a pretty bad situation for anybody else :D
Pretty sure giving any deck Jin-Gitaxias won't end well... And yeah, ANT has fallen from its former glory, and it's fallen HARD.
Fair enough, it's just I think Storm and Reanimator are the things that make the most use of him. Of course I'm not able to use Doomsday if I have him, but with so much card advantage I don't need it. I've finally just given up on ANT, I barely play combo anymore as it is, but that deck... It's saddening on a design level, and in play it's not fast enough for me to give warrant the idea of playing it instead of this even. And pretty much everything falls short of TES and PactSI, but screw that, Doomsday is fun.
PactSI is just strange...It bothers me =[
I'm not going to lie, I'm in the same boat. But hey, something had to be made that could make D7 Storm look sane.
In all honesty, I wish that all combo decks except Doomsday got nerfed into obscurity. Doomsday is such an enormous risk and just such a freaking "black" card that I think the whole thing is balanced and acceptable.
Surely your jesting surewhynot, All combos except Doomsday? MTG reduced to just control, aggro, and aggro-control!?! Aren't you just a little tired of looking at variations of Delver, UW tokens, BU Zombie, and GR Aggro decks in Standard because there really isn't any really good combo decks in Standard? Imagine if Wizards banned Sneak and Show, Belcher, TES, ANT, Hivemind, Dreadstill, Dredge, etc. why all these combo decks that easily fall to extractor (well maybe not Hivemind) would be gone and you'd wouldn't have it so easy. And remember even Reanimator could be considered a combo deck. Just remember Dark Ritual, Duress, Entomb, (Jin, Iona or Gris), Reanimate = most likely game. That sure seems like a combo to me. (unless they are playing someone like you who goes surgical extraction to all that nonsense ;-)) and that is exactly why entomb was banned for a while I think. Anyway, without Reanimator in Legacy the joy of putting a giant obscene monster by turn two would be gone. And we certainlly don't want to lose that joy do we? Imagine no combo decks. Legacy would become Goblins, Merfolk, Zoo (that is if they rule Zoo isn't a combo deck) and maybe some variation of RUG Delver or maybe white weenie now that Land Tax is back. But most importantly, so many of my decks would become banned, and that would hurt my feelings. So please just say your kidding. May you always make your own good luck, Planestalker
I should have clarified...by "combo" I meant Storm combo decks. That's why I said all but doomsday, because doomsday gets the Storm off in such a psychotic and suicidal way that it's just cool to watch. I honestly do believe that the storm mechanic, or at the very least Tendrils of Agony, has ruined the deck type of "combo". Just ask WnB...combo used to be amazing, and truly involved actual combinations of card interactions unlike storm, which just plays draw spells and mana sources until it wins. If you ask me, that's not even a combo. Losing storm would indeed make it harder for me, as Extraction can completely destroy storm (although with misstep gone, it's not as easy as before), but I would welcome the challenge. Back before storm rose to power, Extraction was still powerful against combo, but there was much more thinking involved =/ So yeah, Storm represents everything I hate about competitive magic, but just Storm...not combo as a whole.
I'm in line with saying Tendrils is powerful, I've not really seen it as ever being broken. In Vintage my Laboratory Gush deck beats the ever present goldfishers, and in Legacy I just shut them out with any number of douchebag moves It is, in its own little way, a combo style however. No matter how much I can dislike it, I will give it that. It's really just the logical evolution of the old Channel decks. I wouldn't want storm to die, but I DO think that LED needs to be dealt with. I've never found a use for it other than breaking the living balls out of something that SHOULD be perfectly fine, Faithless Looting in Dredge, and Infernal Tutor instantly springing to mind. Outside of my storm decks I often find myself playing two or three Null Rods in the sideboard, it takes away Vial, LED, SDT, and so many more(including destroying Affinity XD). But that's only really good in something with power behind it, like Reanimator, or Tempo. Both of which can also answer Storm by Stifling the actual Storm trigger. In case I'm muddying what I'm saying too much, banning LED has it's merits, and demerits. It's the one thing that would really change how to build Storm, but it also slows it down enough that aggro crushes it other than Spanish Inquisition. P.S. I don't just play Doomsday because it's fun, I play it for the same reason I play Reanimator over Cascade; I have a tech advantage.
I'd love to see LED either banned or hell, restricted. I think that would balance things out just right, and doomsday would likely still hold on to it's power. As it stands now, LED is too useful, at times acting like a BETTER black lotus...that can't go unanswered, and I feel like it has =/ I've been loving my Reanimator since I've made it for similar reasons. It in a strange way, appeals to the Extractor in me. Extraction wins by making the opponent unable to use their deck...with all the tech and answers Reanimator is packed with...it wins in a similar way! And I love it =P
Being a better Black Lotus is why I mentioned Infernal Tutor and Faithless Looting. In the decks that uses those cards, LED is the most powerful enabler in a long time. Necropotence springing to mind for Storm, and Bazaar for Dredge. Reanimator is the absolute king of tech in my eyes, I've played normal Iso-Seek, Iso-Pox, Enchantress, ect. And nothing has been able to beat Reanimator. I'd play it in vintage if I thought it was fast enough :/
