Deck Description

Hello all, these are the top 8 budget modern replacements for the 200$ Tarmogoyf. Please note that the sideboard is for honorable mentions that didn't quite make the list!
Enjoy!
Please note that Tarmogoyf itself is invaluable, and therefore cannot be replaced, however, these are most likely your best options until you can get 800$ for a playset of goyfs

As good as these all are, they just don't hold a candle to him. Tarmogoyf just gets so big so quickly that nothing really can compare to it. Turn two or three he is coming in as 6/7 and these guys just can't match that so easily at the same speed

Here is to hoping he comes out in Modern Masters 2.

Lol I doubt it. But I am looking forward to that set. The new etched champion art looks sweet

These are no goyf, they are meant to try and fill half a goyf if possible, he is an invaluable card that you cant replace, i know thT, but there are the best... Sadly,..

Too rich for my taste. 10 dollars a booster pack is crazy!
Would like to buy a pack....keep it unopened, and sale it in about 5 years.

I'm going to wait and see what's in it myself before I start dropping cash on it. Wish I
I had jumped on the first one when it was out :(

No like, just I know that all those are modern staples, and from experience watching prices on them, it makes sense that wizards will reprint them to make modern more affordable. For example, even though Tarmogoyf deserves to be mythic (they should make up a new rarity for those OP cards like that though) they will probably re-print him as a rare so you have an improved likelihood of pulling one, thus driving the price down. They may go from 210 to 160.. but probably not less than that. Wizards is keen to reprint these modern stapes to convince people to start playing the format more often, and currently, it is the most popular format, so wizards better do this right!

Agreed. I would like to get my hands on at least one Tarmogoyf for an edh deck I'm making that uses Sidisi, but I wouldn't mind a full set or twelve lol

Ya, I hear you, I managed to find 1 for 120$ at my LGS that was used, and was future sight, but it was still a tarmogoyf, and so I picked it up. I still need 3 of them to finish my Naya Zoo deck (http://www.mtgvault.com/vanguard487/decks/naya-zoo-3/) so I am using Woolly Thoctar in place of it right now. Thats working out pretty well, but goyf is always better :(.
