I was looking through artifacts for my artifact aggression deck (http://www.mtgvault.com/vanguard487/decks/artifact-agression/) , and i stumbled upon a skill called modular. At first I thought, "that's cute, when would this ever really be applicable?" Then I found more and more of these cards, then I remembered the popular 1 turn kill combo with Disciple of the vault, this then lead me to find Arcbound Ravager, which I soon saw the combo with. Thus, the modular construct deck was born.Thank you all for the support!!!!
This deck revolves around the modular skill concept. When a creature dies, all of its power is transferred over to another creature in the form of +1/+1 counters. This skill can quickly beef up your creatures and win the game in turns 5-6. Then add in cards like lightning bolt and Disciple of the Vault to siphon off their life somewhat quickly, it becomes a little overwhelming to both the giver and the receiver. This deck must be played slowly, and at each step, you must think carefully, because one wrong move and BOOM, you lose the game. Personally, I like to use combos like Arcbound Ravager and Disciple of the Vault to beef up Arcbound Ravager and at the same time, drain the opponents life. Almost like a leech. Almost. Slaughter pact is a really overpowered card, seeing that there is almost no land destruction to prevent you from paying the mana cost at your next upkeep. Does it drain you of three mana for a turn, ya, but does it counter something big and nasty, ya, if you weight the positives and negatives, this card goes over very well in this deck.

Awesome deck, though I think that you should take out disciple of the vaults. I don't see where they fit in. Otherwise, AMAZING DECK!!!

He works very well with ravager.
I like this deck, keep up the good work on building!!!
love this deck, although i think you should add fling.
Thanks a lot, i forgot about this card!!
This seems good! How well does this deck run in competitive?
I just tested this deck today, and it actually played really well, it is very fast, a little weak to really fast burn/agro decks, but otherwise amazing!
When I say this I mean things like lightning bolts, or decks that can spam a lot of creatures really fast, even if they are only 1/1's. I didn't test this out in a tournament, but with players that I know have competed in many modern, extended, and standard tournaments. I did lose today, but I won all the games that I played one on one. The other 2 were multiplayer (2 headed giant, and a three player free for all). This deck certainly does not work that well against more than one opponent.... right now. I have actually only worked on this deck for about 2 to 3 hours, where most of my decks i spend months working on, and tweaking. This deck probably will not be done until the end of November. I will keep working on it, and it will become better and better. Right now it works well, I can't wait until this is finished. Oh, and what is your opinion on the Disciple of the Vaults? I am not sure how much they bring to the deck, and I am wondering if I should take them out. This "sideboard" I have added is a mere list of cards that could fit into the deck, but some are left out to keep the cost down. If you think that any card should replace another, just leave a comment. I hope that this answers your question.
Fair enough, most tournement quality decks built specifically for one on one don't do well in free for all multiplayer. Disciple of the vaults seems like an interesting addif you are focusing on recursion of your modular creatures. I mean obviously you have a loop you can keep going with your, ravager reclaimer and any other modular creature. Sack them to the ravager making the oppanent loose a life, put the modular on the reclaimer, reclaim it, rinse and repeat. So it does depend on how you want to play itMy version of modular was running Kalonian Hydra to double all the counters on the modular creatures and doubling season
I run a modular deck that is similar, but I have Shirei, Shizo's Caretaker to bring all my modular creatures back at the end of turn.
Thank you to bring this card to my attention, it is definitely going in
Thank you all, the comments you guys have made have made this deck 10 times better!!!! Any other suggestions are welcomed!
I like this deck, epically how cheap it is compared to other decks. I would recommend adding in Steel Overseer to this deck. It would increase the price, but it would be extremely helpful to this deck.
Thanks for the insight. I will add it to the sideboard and consider it!!
I like the deck, consider Triskelion in the mix for a little more damage. You can feed him with the modular and hurt creatures and opponents.
The problem with this, is what would I take out, if you can tell me your opinion on this matter, I would highly consider this card, but I don't want the mana curve to be destroyed, so if you can fix both of these problems, let me know and I will strongly consider adding this in
Just a thought but for the mana curve, if you have an artifact imprinted on Semblance Anvil it can still come out pretty efficiently. I wouldn't risk using slaughter pact, I would take that out. You're killing a nonblack creature.....you can kill anything with Triskelion, even black creatures. I love flinging something big, putting all the counters on Triskelion and hit em again for double the damage. Thoughts on my thoughts?
I see what you are saying, completely, and this would work, but what would I take out, slaughter pact is there as a panic card, and even though it is kind of risky, there are not many modern land destruction decks out there, so I am not that concerned about this. Tell you what, I will give it a try, and post a new comment on this thread on Sunday, telling you how practical it is. Oh, by the way, did anyone notice the infinite counter with arcbound reclaimer and acrbound ravenger, and symbalance anvil to cast the cards for free? Not a very practical loop, but it is there. I totaly see what you are saying, and I will give it a try. But what to take out?
Good luck, see what happens, let me know how it goes.
Hey, by the way, do you run a modular deck?
Yes, I just tore one apart but I did have one, that's why I like what you did. I went colorless with locus/vesuva lands as the engine, put scarecrone in it to bring back my modulars and Triskelion was my kill.
Interesting, are you talking about omnath, Locus of mana, or something else?
Cloudpost and Glimmerpost.....the two locus lands.....sorry. Vesuva copies Cloudpost and you have a huge mana engine. I think I had expedition map in there as well to bring that out.
Was this deck on MTG vault? If it was I actually saw it.
Yeah, there is some version of what I am talking about out there.
Ya, I have seen it. Hey, you should make some decks and post the on the vault, it sure seems like you know what you are talking about!
Great deck. A few suggestions:Miren, The Moaning Well would fit perfectly. If you are low on life you have a way back in the game.Proliferate is a great combined with modular. Throne of Geth would be great. With Welding Jar you don't run out of creatures to sacrifice.I don't know if Illusionist's Bracers works but if it does, you double your counters when you sacrifice you a creature.
Thanks, I will look at all of these cards and see if any fit in, thank you for bringing these to my attention
Take out the lightning bolts and put in some galvanic blasts. The more damage the better!
Oh, thanks, I forgot about the metalcraft on them!
I would like to point out that you can contagion engine's ability for the same cost as the clasp's ability. the downside is that i costs 3x as much as the clasp.
I'd get rid of the Contagion Clasp and put Steel Overseer in.
nie love the deck i was thinking of making something like it but with kresh in the deck
All of the modular creatures have a power of 0, so that wouldn't do anything
A new update, for all of you looking for the deck to be finished, I have gotten this tweaked so carefully, that it can now be used competitively, and I will continue to work on it as I play more and more matches with it. Sideboard coming soon!
Add goblin welder and artifact lands, so you can recycle modular creatures with extra mana you used in any turn and deal damage with the disciple of the vault.
