Deck Description

A budget recreation of my werewolf deck requested by Sally! ^^ Main deck and sideboard are all mint condition cards coming to a total of $71.40 not including shipping and handling (price check produced by channelfireball.com). In ordering these cards to create the deck I suggest ordering set of card sleeves as-well. This is because all werewolves are dual sided flip cards and do not have the standard Magic The Gathering logo on the back of them, instead having the card of the transformation printed on the back of the card. Card sleeves range from about $2 - $10 depending on the print on the sleeves and the finish.

I recommend ordering this deck from Channelfireball.com as the deck comes out at a lower total then my alternate site Starcitygames.com. Not to mention, Channelfireball currently has some promo Mayor of Avabruck in stock you may be interested in. I will also recommend Ultra Pro sleeves as they are high quality, durable sleeves. The ultra pro normal sleeves are reflective and can have wide variety of designs on the back but can be difficult to shuffle (even so that has not stopped me from getting them). They also offer Pro-Matte finished sleeves that are non reflective in a variety of colors, these sleeves are easier to shuffle. When ordering sleeves make sure to check for how many sleeves are in a pack as the Pro-Matte sleeves are 50 sleeves a pack. I believe its only the Pro-Matte sleeves that are 50 sleeves a pack but better safe then sorry. Links for Channelfireball will be provided bellow. ^^

How to Play

How To Play:
Overall this deck is a very fast paced werewolf deck packed with low to mid cost creatures paired with potential to create an impressive token hoard. In playing this deck, your first few turns would ideally be spent setting up a board presence of low drop creatures like Wolfbitten Captive, Reckless Waif, and Mayor of Avabruck. While you may attack if you see an opening, you want to keep your creatures alive so they can transform. On about turn 3-5 you will want to avoid playing spells to flip your Werewolves and start going in for heavy attacks.

Your opponent will try and exploit the weakness of werewolves once they have transformed by playing 2 or more cards to make them human again. The obvious choice to counter this is Immerwolf and if you have an Immerwolf in play you should do all you can to protect it. However if you do not have Immerwolf in play, Moonmist is very reliable. While being attacked by stronger creatures Moonmist can protect your creatures and allow them to likely overpower your opponents creatures, before attacking Moonmist can transform all your Werewolves taking your opponent off guard. To further dismay your opponent from Transforming your creatures is Huntmaster of the Fells with triggered abilities that activate whenever he is transformed.

While filled with low cost creatures, Transform and Werewolves ability to support one another causes there creatures in this deck to hit much harder then most low mana curved decks. To really drive the game to a close the deck is armed with Instigator Gang, Kruin Outlaw, and Wolfir Silverheart each armed with a unique way to support your other creatures.

In terms of token creation the deck is armed with, Mayor of Avabruck, Huntmaster of the Fells, and Garruk Relentless. Both Mayor of Avabruck and Garruk Relentless are able to create stead 2/2 Wolves that are more likely to be 3/3 or higher depending on board presence. Garruk Relentless is particularly threatening if you can transform him since he can create 1/1 Wolves with Deathtouch while building up his loyalty. Once his loyalty is built up either make use of his -1 to search for the creature to answer whatever threat you face or end the game by buffing your creatures more so and giving them trample.

While the deck doesn't boast many Instants/Sorcery/Enchantments they play the important role of supporting your werewolves through the game. Moonmist, as mentioned before, allows for on the fly transformations. Full Moons Rise, gives a nice boost to all your werewolves that should by all means be sacrificed to save key werewolves. Gruul Charm will most often be played for its first effect allowing your Werewolves to get past majority of your opponents creatures, but if not is able to take care of pesky flying creatures that can be an issue for this deck.

Sideboard:
The sideboard contains support for the deck with cards that answer problems the deck may face. Flames Of The Blood hand provides creature removal and helps you manage fighting lifegain decks. Hunter's Insight allows enough card draw to refill an empty hand and keep you on the offensive. Sheltering Word helps counter decks with lots of removal, able to protect your creatures and provide life gain to make up for life lost. Gruul Charm as an extra against decks heavy in flyers. And then, Ancient Grudge is especially important as your werewolves need to look out for Ratchet Bomb, an artifact capable of destroying all your transformed werewolves with ease because a transformed werewolf's converted mana cost is 0. In using the sideboard you will most likely start with removing some if not all the Full Moon's Rise and/or Gruul Charm from main deck in replacement for whatever answers your deck needs.

Making This Deck Better:
In customizing this deck yourself and making this deck better, more powerhouse cards like Kruin Outlaw that buff all your Werewolves is always good. In addition you will want to look for ways to make use of extra mana while passing up playing any spells to transform creature. Wolfbitten Captive and Kessig Wolf Run both already in the deck does this great but 4 Raging Rivine in place of Gruul Guildgate will go a long way along with any other little tricks you can find to spend mana without playing spells. Additionally more Wolf tokens is never a bad thing with this deck and cards like, Sword of Body And Mind and Master of the Wild Hunt can go a long way. Lastly, you may want to consider answers to removal spells through Hexproof and/or Shroud effects to protect your key creatures. Witchstalker may also be nice to consider for the deck in place of Wolfir Silverheart as Witchstalker already has Hexproof and is a Wolf. On top of that Witchstalker will deter decks that have Black or Blue from playing instants on your turn that may cause your Werewolves to transform.

Yes. I went for this one. Not so flashy, but it fits nice :) Do he have to take out the card and turn it every time the creature transforms?

Yes he will need to take the card out of the sleeve and flip it every time it transforms. bit of a pain but its not to bad once you get used to it. Just be sure not to shuffle them back into the deck while they are transformed. :P

They don't make all color boxes unfortunately. But very nice choices for sleeves and box. Friend of mine actually has the same ones for his Green Elf deck.

If you post any deck and want my feedback let me know. Or if you want a deck built for that matter let me know. x] I am fond of deck building and enjoy a challenge despite my being a casual player.

I think i want to design a sleeve that is easier to use for this kind of card...

Can i put in the decks I have, even it it is starter decks? I've putted some in and taken some out, so it is original kinda...

Yeah, you can put in whatever deck you want to put in. If you want to share them with a few people you have to go the the deck and do to the deck settings (which is on the right side of the main deck list) and make sure its unlisted and then share the link(s) with your friends and then they can comment on the deck like we are but it isn't listed in the searches. If you want everyone to be able to see and comment your deck then make sure its set on public.

Design a sleeve for the card? Not sure if you can do that or how you'd go abouts doing it because revealing the back side of the card lets whoever has the deck know whats coming up next and whats where when they suffle so long as they can see the back of the card. I did a bit of digging for your though and found this video discussing double faced card rulings you may want to have a look at. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGIuC6J29tM The judge talks about using checklist cards as placeholders in the deck which could be a possibility for you and your boyfriend. I took the liberty of finding them on channel fireball for you and looking at whats in this deck. You would need13 Innistrad placeholders and 6 Dark Ascension placeholders. So instead of putting the flip card in the sleeve you use the placeholder with the card names checked off so you both know which cards he has in his hand. Does that make sense? I'll provide the links to these bellow.

Here is my first deck, I see now, as I lay them out, that it is a mess. It is my two first decks, whom I taken my favorit cards out of and put them into one deck.
http://www.mtgvault.com/sally/decks/my-first-deck/

It will be like two sleeves attached to each other [][] Only one is clear and the other is black. in the corner of both sleeves there is the smallest magnet who can hold the black sleeve on one of the sides. it will be hard to shuffle, and hard to make, but fun in the game.

I've always wondered what thous cards was for. But then you can not see the awesome night side.

I'll have a look at your deck and tell you what I think. ^^

You can still see the night side. :o You put the checklist card in the sleeve and then play the checklist card for the appropriate mana. Once the checklist card is in play you replace it with the appropriate flip card you have outside of your deck that is outside of a sleeve. That way flipping the card is easy and you don't have to take anything out of any sleeves. Your magnet idea sounds interesting but sounds very bulky. x]

i kinda still don't get it... you put bout the flip card and the checklist card in the same sleeve? That is a good idea.

yes it is... trying to come up whit other ideas how to make it stick without being bulky, and lasting for a long time, and being invisible.

Not quite. Let me give an example. You take the checklist and check off Huntmaster Of The Fells. You put the checklist card in the sleeve and Huntmaster Of The Fells outside of the deck. You draw the checklist version of Huntmaster Of The Fells and play him for 4 mana. Then you put the checklist Huntmaster aside with the sleeve and replace it with Huntmaster Of The Fells without the sleeve. x]
