Deck Description

Hello everyone and thank you for coming to check out my Deck. I would greatly appreciate any comments and feedback about this deck to help make it more potent and consistent. Bit of a disclaimer to keep in mind with comments about this deck, I am a casual player and have built this deck with the modern format in mind. In addition I am slightly on budget so although I'd love to run 4 Breeding Pool it is simply out of budget so I'm making do (though i do have 4 Hinterland Harbor, snagged them while their price was down so ^^). :3 All that said thank you in advance for leaving a comment! ^^

In building this deck I knew that I love combo decks with creatures and spells that all work well off one another. I also knew I wanted to base the deck around evolve and make use of Master Biomancer while at the same time trying to abuse Experiment Kraj. I deeply enjoy the end result of the creature base thus far but I am unsure about the spells as I have yet to physically put the deck together and play test it (need to get my hands on a few more cards).

The sideboard is a mix of cards that I will use to swap into the main deck to answer other deck types. Ætherize imparticular is very epic enabling protection for my deck that is similar to fog that will also slow my opponent down and maybe even open them up for killing attack. Running it in the main deck would provide brilliant answer against most token decks and aggressive weenie hoard decks.

Crocanura is a more defensive play that allows more answers for flyers though slows the decks aggressive speed down and may be swapped out, let me know what you think. :) Then theres Elusive Krasis that would allow the deck to play more evasively and start to get in damage early, I choose to sideboard him because I prefer an aggressive beatdown.

Voidslime may seem oddly place in the sideboard of an aggressive creature deck but is an incredibly versatile counter spell and my personal favorite. It allows the deck to have answer via counterspell to protect against board wipes and abilities of all types including Planeswalker abilities for only 3 mana. ^^

Avenger of Zendikar and Momir Vig, Simic Visionary are another 2 favorite cards of mine that offer this deck different play styles. Avenger of Zendikar is a MASSIVE bomb that brings an army with him that only becomes more powerful with all the counter generation in this deck (especially Master Biomancer) while Momir Vig would supply impressive card advantage and selection even if he's out for only a short time.

How to Play

Being this Deck is highly biased around Evolve there are many routes to take while playing this Deck to get the most out of Evolving each creature. Ideally I'd open with a slow start utilizing Birds of Paradise and Gyre Sage as early drops that will turn into mana ramp. With one or 2 of those cards out I'd ideally try to ramp into Simic Manipulator, Fathom Mage, or Adaptive Snapjaw to get my evolve creatures in place. Once the field is set id start bringing out Guilder Bairn, Plaxcaster Frogling (both graft support and hexproof support) , and Master Biomancer (all of which can trigger evolve on any of the evolve creatures).

As my side of the field becomes more threatening Wolfir Silverheart, Experiment Kraj and Prime Speaker Zegana serve as my game enders. Wolfir Silverheart being a 4/4 when he first comes into play serves great followup to creatures with 3 power or toughness able to further Trigger evolve in addition to pairing extremely well with Master Biomancer and Birds of Paradise. Experiment Kraj being my dream finisher when pared with Guilder Bairn along with other creatures enabling infinite mana (with Gyre Sage), infinite creature control (with Simic Manipulator), and infinite card advantage (with Fathom Mage). Finally there is Prime Speaker Zegana who serves as an endgame bomb being massive by the time she comes out while guaranteeing evolve to trigger on all my creatures and refilling my hand.

While playing the Deck the non creature spells serve to bolster evolve and support the creatures as the Deck plays. Increasing Savagery being the all star spell enables massive +1/+1 counter generation and a mana sink mid to late game while its in the grave. Ring of Kalonia pairs well with many of the creatures in the deck enabling steady +1/+1 counter generation while also allowing me to give a large creature trample. Inexorable Tide pairs well with the card advantage potential this deck possesses, triggering proliferate on any number of permeates whenever I cast a spell. Garruk Primal Hunter may seem like an interesting choice in walkers but he supplies steady 3/3 creatures which will trigger evolve on any of my evolve creatures when they first hit the board in addition to the optional card advantage and final ability which can trigger multiple instances of evolve. Unexpected results is an interesting card in this deck, delivering a random result to the field. Having not been able to play with Unexpected Results I'm shaky as to how it will function in this deck and put it in more for flavor. Let me know what you think of Unexpected Results in a casual format. ^^

The lands Llandwar Reborn and Alchemists Refuge play interesting rolls in the deck. Llandwar reborn allows me to quickly get +1/+1 counters on cards such as Gyre Sage, Simic Manipulator or Fathom Mage to quickly make use of their abilities early into the game. Alchemists Refuge opens the deck's overall flexibility enabling the option to hold back what I would of played during my own turn for my opponents turn. While this may not seem great at first it allows me to decide if what I would of played would help my board or if protecting my creatures from some spell through Plaxcaster Frogling would be a better use of mana or even to just surprise block my opponent.

Thanks in advance everyone. :D

Pretty nice deck though a bit expensive for my kind of budget ^^.
Anyways I don't see the reason to place Gavony Township in here since you don't have white mana to activate its effects (Birds of Paradise get a lot of hate so they don't count).

Budget varies person to person. ^^

Thank you for your input about Gavony Township, it is there mainly as way to guarantee at least 1 +1/+1 counter on everything I have out though your right it isn't quite as effective without any real white mana. I'm looking into either throwing in dual colored mana that is green/white in place of some forests or some blue/white in place of some islands. Or I may even replace the township with a more color friendly land to bolster my +1/+1 counters.

Wow what an interesting deck!! Seems tightly planned to me, But perhaps the mana costs are a little steep still even with the mana ramps? Maybe remove 1 Fathom Mage, and 1 Increasing Savagery and add in the 2 Elusive Krasis. How will you manage stronger flying creatures and perhaps detaining? Exchange the Unexpected results with something that protects your creatures or eliminates a threat directly

Thank you for coming over to comment on my beck mikael. Is tightly planned a good thing or a bad thing to you? The overall idea of the deck is a bit one track Ramp, Buff/Card Advantage, Smash more then whoever I'm playing can handle. However it does so in a way that if whoever I'm fighting can't get their own footing in their own plan that I will overpower them though sheer numbers.

Believe it or not the mana ramp helps this deck function with the high 4 mana curve + activated abilities mostly because Gyre Sage. Turn 3-4 ill have about 3-4 lands out and either a Birds of Paradise or a Gyre Sage with 2 +1/+1 counters on her allowing her to taps for 2 green mana. As the game goes on if she isn't answered only build up more mana ramp.

My reason for having Elusive Krasis in the sideboard is i prefer beatdown over an evasive offense. With him sideboarded if i find I'm against a faster pace deck then I'd like to be up against I'd swap him in and make the deck play faster around him.

Typically my answer would be Birds of Paradise boosted with +1/+1 counters or even paired with Wolfir Silverheart to make it a 4/5. Worse case scenario I'd likely try to keep my enemy on the defense instead of allowing them the offense forcing them to block with their fliers. Having more answers to fliers is a good point... perhaps Crocanura... It's def worth looking into to say the least.

Good call in taking out Unexpected Results for creature protection. The Unexpected Results though flavorful doesn't have offer enough kick in the deck that it needs from its non creature spells.

Going forward I will alter the sideboard and the main board, so thank you very much for your feedback.

Very Nice Deck. I like the Experiment Krag in there. I agree with the above comments though. I would more than likely take out gavony township. And also just be sure you can have dual-colored mana for your things that need it :)

Thank you for coming over to comment on the deck Sunny. It makes me happy that you appreciate Experiment Kraj in the deck as the potential he holds alone makes me smile that crazy Simic smile. I can agree with you on the topic of Gavony Township (aka Groovy Township) and how it isn't reliable enough without the white mana and I am looking into a way to fix that. In what play testing I could do through this site, not having the right mana hasn't screwed over a terrible amount of my draws just yet but I will look into some more affordable dual colored mana.

For future viewers, in the main deck I swapped out the following cards: 2 Unexpected Results for 2 Simic Charm and then 2 Gavony Township for 2 Alchemists Refuge. In the sideboard I took out a few cards not mentioned in any of the above comments for 3 Crocanura, 3 Ætherize, and 4 Ætherize.

Keep up the comments everyone. ;) Thank you everyone again for the comments so far and thank you in advance for any further comments. :3

This is a sweet deck!!! I think that it's pretty obvious that you know what you're doing and have a good grasp of the game. I would suggest getting 4 breeding pools in there in place of islands or forests (though I know they're not exactly inexpensive...). That would speed up the deck even more because you wouldn't be as likely to get mana screwed, and might also open up some space for additional cards, like an Elusive Krasis or two. :)

Thanks for the comment Sprice. ^^ Wasn't expecting any more comments at this point but its much appreciated. I am looking into some sort of mana fixer for this deck and though I'd love a playlet of Breeding Pool its about $60 for a full playset and Flooded Grove only costs more. :( Yavimaya Coast is a more friendly option coming in at about $32 for a playlet but will damage my health in exchange for the mana which would hurt me more then trying to fix mana against aggressive decks. All that in mind I may have to run Seaside Citadel or Simic Guildgate because there aren't as many options in dual colored lands for opposing colors such as Blue/Green.

As for Elusive Krasis he is sideboarded because I prefer an aggressive beatdown deck over the Elusiveness of Elusive Krasis. However he is still an option to deal with faster passed decks. ^^

Hello again everyone, I am looking for further feedback to resolve land issues and ensuring I have enough mana generation/card advantage to keep this deck going. I have changed my trail of thought due to no other effective route of mana fixing and believe I will be adding 4 Breeding Pools to this deck. In addition I will be removing Inexorable Tide because though it is a nice utility for the deck to have it is overpriced and comes into play to late in the game to be effective. In addition I may also move Simic Charm to the sideboard as an optional utility to make whatever fixer chosen more accessible.

So the question is what to replace it (or them) with? I have found myself torn between some high rewarding mana ramp like Explosive Vegetation, Hunting Wilds, or card advantage like Soul's Majesty, Tezzeret's Gambit or even a mix of the two with Urban Evolution. On one hand I feel the mana ramp will help me beat my opponent to some drops while on the other hand I feel the deck doesn't need to race with mana rather play more creatures to pump Gyre sage while drawing mana to play...

So to you, the viewer(s), what would you replace Inexorable Tide or even Simic Charm with?

Those are all good cards. haha I think that Hunting Wilds would be better than Explosive Vegetation because it gives you more options if it comes in late in the game. As far as card advantage... Gotta love the Phyrexian Mana. :) Urban Evolution is super cool as well.

how come neither of the one drop evolve creatures are present?

Thank you for the comment splode however id prefer this to be a beatdown deck over an evasive one thus excluding Cloudfin Raptor (and Elusive Krasis) from main deck and have included this in the deck desctiption. As for Adaptive one, you need to look at him from the prospective of the ability Evolve and the structure of the deck itself.

With Evolve in mind you need 2 things; 1 the creatures with Evolve and 2 the creatures stronger then the evolve creatures to trigger evolve and determine how big the Evolve creatures can become. This deck impaticular has 10 Evolve creatures and 12 creatures to trigger evolve (excluding the birds of paradise because they aren't strong enough to trigger evolve without Master Biomancer and also excluding Adaptive Snapjaw being he has evolve too). Being this is a beatdown deck I'd want my creatures to be non evasive and quite large and being my mana curve goes up pretty high and requires a lot of dual colors the mana fixing/advantage from Birds of Paradise is more needed then running Adaptive One or Cloudfin Raptor. I could run either of them in place of Gyre Sage but she is useful for mana advantage and for the synergy with Experiment Kraj + Guilder Bairn.

Hope that answered your question. ^^

Ya, totally. How about Burst of Strength? You can use it on your Gyre Sage for lots of mana. Gyre Sage w/ (say) +2/+2, tap it for mana and the mana goes into your pool, play Burst of Strength to give it another counter and untap it, tap it for 3 mana now, total 4 mana in your pool for spending 1. I've used that combo in my Evolve deck really early on in the game to pump out more/bigger creatures faster.
