Deck Description

Mono red burn deck that combines quick, powerfull creatures with Direct damage. It utilizes a couple of cards that will be in the 2010 set. Suggestions, comments, and rating will be greatly appreciated. Any help is good. I am considering this type of deck for standard tourny use. Thanks

Deck discussion for Standard red whoopin

This deck is sweet. I think it all comes down to personal preference beyond a certain point. I made an extremely similar deck that I intend to play next week: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=19748 I like that chaotic backlash in the sideboard. I have always just focused on hosing blue in SB but that's something I am thinking about changing now.

Looks good to me.
Except when Magic 2010 becomes legal 10th Edition will be kicked out of Type 2 so you'll have to replace Pyroclasm with something else.

I found out from a spoiler that pyroclasm is going to be printed in M2010, so i should be good there.

gotta love the red burn goodness.......u might consider adding spark elemental, a classic for these type of decks, also check out lava spike and incinerate.....unfortunately banefire is useless in this type of deck, it only works well in mana producing decks that r centered around casting x costing spells....i know its tempting but u should pull it out and replace it with a 3 or 4 mana damaging spell for 4 or 5 damage each, this will maximize ur speed wich is absolutley essential in these type of decks, ive built one as well, u should check it out, its called mustang mayhem........overall a good and solid deck, keep up the good work

I have made a couple of changes that i hope will improve this deck. I dropped tattermunge maniac because after playtesting it did not seem to be very productive & it was easily dealt with by opponents. I dropped banefire because i didnt seem to need it often and it is too mana dependant(needing 6 before it is fully affective). I added tarfire so i can still consistently have a turn 1 spell. Last i put the demigod of revenge in. I feel like it will do well with this deck. I am still looking for ways to improve so keep the comments coming. Thanks

I would drop a pyroclasm for a full playset of tarfires, and then I would replace the tarfires with magma sprays. The RFG is huge, especially when dealing with persist creatures and Reveillark decks. This deck is looking nasty! The synergy of spitemare-fallout/pyroclasm is sweet! I went ahead and updated my red deck for 2010 as well. http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=22412 if you're interested :)

You seem too worried about creatures, you have4 volcanic fallouts, 4 magma sprays, and 2 pyroclasms....take some of them out and add more direct damage like shard volly (who cares about throwing away a land to win, it is not like your going to use it after they are dead anyway). You never know when 3 damage will win you the game as opposed to knowing that doing 2 damage to 1 creature by itself will not win you the game ever...the only thing it can do is keep you from losing (there is a big difference) Good Luck with your standard tourys!
