Deck Description

a fun monoblack vampire tribal deck that focuses on a bloodghast + kalastria highborn + sac outlet instead of the usual black-red aggro or midrange decks.

i haven't been able to come up with a sideboard

How to Play

the first battleplan is to get bloodghast and kalastria highborn out. a sacrifice outlet like bloodflow connesoisseur or bloodthrone vampire can sacrifice bloodghast. this triggers kalastrias ability draining your opponent for 2 life. whenever a land hits the battlefield, bloodghast reappears. rince and repeat. even though it's mono black, i included evolving wilds for 2 landdrops on 1 turn to accelerate that clock.
the backup plan is swarming your opponent with powerful vampires. vampire nighthawk with a blade of the bloodchief attached will usually wreck any opponent. bloodline keeper is a nice lord too.
lastly there's a bit of spot removal to protect myself.

why the wilds O-o?

it's in the how to play"i included evolving wilds for 2 landdrops on 1 turn to accelerate that clock." it's actually quite effective. i can easily make my opponent lose 4 or 8 life and gain as much on one turn with that. (the land drop makes bloodghast return so i can sac it again)

This is a good strategy. If you have the $ or when they get reprinted def switch to Fetch lands. (Bloodstained Mire, Verdant Catacombs, Marsh Flats) This will give the same effect with your land being untapped. As well maybe find room for Blood Artist and maybe even Falkenrath Noble to really get the most out of your "extort" mechanic. Also in side board put 4 Geth's verdict to deal with hexproof and hope you don't play against affinity B/C black has No answers to artifacts.

fetch lands are indeed strictly better, but as you said also strictly more expensive, haha! i'm not yet ready to invest that :p. thanks for the sideboard suggestion! i'm not good at creating them.
i have been thinking about adding blood artist, but i don't know what to cut for it. cutting vampire nighthawks or bloodline keepers hurts my 'backup plan'. cutting the gatekeepers lowers my removal (i mainly see them as a three drop with added removal, not a two drop). cutting on sac outlets also seems a bad idea because my experience with the deck learns that i need them in abundance. i'll have to think or test more to find a place for them.

Possibly run 2 Kalastria Highborn and 2 Blood artists since blood artist doesn't require mana for the ability. As well in the sideboard you should think about putting 2 Grafdigger's Cage, in modern there is a lot of graveyard play which is abruptly ended with 1 of them out.

Altar's Reap for card draw? Random cards, Bile Blight, Burden of Greed, Darkness, Dismember, Grim Return, Midnight Charm, Nightcreep, Pack's Disdain, I'll post more later.

grafdigger's cage seems very counterproductive since my combo relies on the graveyard as well. if i include it, i should also have an expansion for my 'backup plan' in the sideboard

falkenrath noble would probably work better and sorin markov would be usefull

i find falkenarth noble and sorin markov just a bit too high on the mana curve for their effect. by the time i'm able to cast them i don't want to 'waste' my complete manapool on casting them. on later turns i'd rather be able to cast stuff while also keeping mana open to invest in kalastrias ability. but thanks for suggesting. if further playing with the deck shows i have a place or need for higher CMC cards i'll definitely consider them.
