It would be pretty neat, if it wasn't for the fact that protection from black won't save your creatures from the Pestilence. Since Pestilence is a enchantment with a global ability, you're going to end up nuking every creature on the board.

As far as I understand it, protection from black saves them from pestilence, since it is a targeted ability that does a specifit amount of damage: "deal X damage to any creature and player" -> protection from black negates that

Does not target creatures. "B: Pestilence deals 1 damage to each creature and each player." No targeting whatsoever, just simple damage to all. Globalized. Protection nullified. Not that I'm trying to burst your bubble, man, just trying to state a point.
It does work - protection prevents damage, can't be targeted/equipped/enchanted, and can't be blocked. It only prevents damage, though, so Damnation and Infest will still kill creatures with protection from black.
to the people saying protection from black doesn't work: white knight and pestilence have been a combo since the cards were printed. protection means that the card cannot suffer damage from a source of the colour it's protected from. regardless of the fact it's not targeted, it will recieve no damage. -1/-1 counters work, but hey, that's not damage.
Wither and Infect don't work, as they are a form of damage; however, creatures with protection can be dealt damage if the damage can't be prevented (eg. Unstable Footing).
although, i would add..... circle of protection black and rune of protection black DON'T work with pestilence very well. you have to activate the circle/rune of protection for EACH activation of pestilence, i.e. each single point of damage. you're much better off just having a spell which prevents the damage i.e. safe passage.
