Deck Description

I've decided to start a "starter deck" series of about four decks because four friends I played a massive Magic game with recently decided it wasn't just for nerds after all (go figure) and really enjoyed it so I'm scrapping together some starter decks for them with cards I have lying around (came into Magic when M12 dropped, hence why everything is relatively new in all these starter decks) so I can teach them strategy, deck building, themes, etc. This is a very cheap deck with some cards that work really well together for cheap damage.

Goblin Fireslinger and Goblin Arsonist are great turn-one drops, especially if you drop Stormblood Berserker on turn two. Either tap the Fireslinger or attack with the Arsonist (even if he dies, you can do your opponent a damage) and the Berserker gets his Bloodthirst. Goblin Shortcutter can help clear the way for your Goblins to do more hurting. Goblin King beefs your guys(if it's in your budget, replace with Goblin Chieftain or run both since they are both great goblin lords, with Chieftain being slightly better). Guttersnipe deals out some additional hurt when you play one of your 18 instants and sorceries.

Lightning Bolt can take care of pesky early-game creatures or hit your opponent for three damage. Searing Blood lets you kill a creature and slap your opponent. Krenko's Command makes you more Goblins for your army. And Goblin Grenade and Brimstone Volley are the game winners, especially if you have four mana and can use them in tandem to deal out at least 10 damage by turn four!

When constructing a red deck, you want to bring the hurt with burn cards and creatures that support the "burn them to death" strategy. Enter goblins, the marquee red tribal creatures. Goblins are small, cheap and help each other take down your opponent quickly. This deck plays fast and is supposed to, if you can't win with a burn deck within the first handful of turns or so, you probably won't win. But this deck can do that. Topping out at a three converted mana cost allows the deck to run quickly and get spells down fast, especially if you run into a little bit more land than the 3 on-average you'll draw in any given game.

Hope this inspires some new Magic players! Any comments/suggestions are welcome!

Deck discussion for Starter Deck: Goblins

Goblin incinerator, mogg war marshal and goblin war strike are all cheap and great for goblin decks.

You're right, all those cards would be great additions to a cheap goblins deck like this. Thank you for your input!
