Deck Description

I always wanted to build a mill deck. This one works pretty good.

**Deck Edit** - Reduced the overall number of creatures and added more milling spells. Archive Trap combos with Ghost Quarter or they can be used individually. Added Jace Beleren - I debated between Jace Beleren & Jace, Memory Adept but went with the former for 2 reasons: 1) cheaper mana cost (3 vs. 5) and 2) the deck itself revolves more around the spells than one card to end all, so being able to draw and then drop the ultimate seemed like the best way to go and would make him harder to kill the longer he stays out. *Change* - I now have 1 of each since I was fortunate enough to pull one in the 2014 Core Set.

How to Play

Pretty standard Mill deck. Jace's Phantasm should be a 5/5 flying blocker for 1 super early. Phantasm & Shriekgeist put pressure on opponent through damage & Mill ability simultaneously. Dreadwaters gets more powerful the longer the game goes on, but is higher cost than the other mill cards. Can flashback Dream Twist for additional Mill ability. Traumatize is a crippling card in any mill deck. Added Jace Beleren for the final blow & a way to constantly keep my hand full of the cards I need. Archive Trap & Ghost Quarter are a good combo together, but still stand alone pretty well.

Deck discussion for Mono Blue - Mill

Archive Trap with Ghost Quarter is fun stuff if you can get them to bite. It tends to be a solid deterrent from searching their deck if they are aware of it in your deck. Neither are super costly.

That's a nice little combo - not sure if I have any copies of either of those. I'll definitely consider working it in.

Added bonus, on the off chance you draw all 4 traps and they evolving wilds turn one. ....

Nothing brings a smile to your face like being able to say "Mill 52" before you have even had a turn.

After some quick looks I've decided on some preliminary adjustments:

- Harbor Serpent, Stormtide Leviathan, & Wall of Frost are coming out. Adding 2 more Fog Bank so only creatures will be those, the Phantasms & Shriekgeists. All flying, and all cheap for blocking.
- Curse of the Bloody Tome is coming out and I'm taking out 2 Islands.
- Per suggestion above (thanks MTGnerdrage!) I am going to add 4 each of Archive Trap & Ghost Quarter. And also add copies of Dream Twist (love the flashback on this card) and Tome Scour to bring those up to 4 each.

I'm hoping those changes make it flow a little better. It was frustrating having a decent mill-style deck and pulling a hand full of (expensive) creatures. I'm hoping with the new set up it will flow much nicer. Will update the deck list as soon as it is ready.

Other comments/suggestions are appreciated as I continue to tinker with this deck.

This is the mill Deck I am using. A bit more expensive and not mono-blue at all but there are some solid cards in there. http://www.mtgvault.com/mtgnerdrage/decks/mill-away-your-sorrows/

Also, the Combo I gave you is good to sub out in the case that a person does not use much fetch.

It does seem like the Ghost Quarter/Trap would be situational - but they're both still good cards in and of themselves. If they don't search I destroy a land, and a higher cost spell that mills 13 isn't as big of a deal since I have so many other lower cost cards.

Purely on a whim, I am considering tossing in 1 or 2 Grafdigger's Cage in. This way I can trigger the fetch but it would be unplayable if they choose (I've played a few people who like to scout their decks) & it takes away any reanimate type cards as well... basically once I mill a card to the graveyard it stays there. Thoughts?

Sure but it would really be unlikely that they would search their lib. I would sideboard it for a heavy reanimate deck.

Definitely Need Jace. Would you mind taking a look at my slumbering dragon deck? i'm trying to add green into it, but am not sure what to add (look in sideboard) http://www.mtgvault.com/blackrazz/decks/attack-me-i-dare-you-help/

I've been meaning to add Jace, just haven't had the $ for it yet. At this point it's a question of how many copies. In my other decks with Planeswalkers I only have 1 copy because I am comfortable with the rest of the deck dynamic - it seems here that I might need to go with 2+ just because the ability is so good.

I normally only use 2 copies of any legend and planeswalker.
Over 2 copies tends to take up valuable deck space.

I only put 2 in my mill deck. I personally would put a third in mine, but i don't have a third XP

Made some adjustments (new deck list above!) based on your suggestions. I'm going to try and run this a few times before making any further edits, but additional comments/suggestions are appreciated.
