Deck Description

I tried full tempo, I tried running U/R Delver directly. It's not me.

I like a deck with teeth, something that's not afraid to have a little bite to it, a good kick in the mouth potential. But, I will give to Delver's credit, I like its style.

So I kicked it back up where I want it, by adding some white in the mix. In the main board, we've got Delver's old Standard buddy, the Geist of Howard Taft jumping back out of the bathtub, and bringing his Angels out to play, and we've got one of my personal favorite cards making its way in: Boros Charm.

Boros Charm was almost just made to be paired with our good buddy Geist. All three forms just speak to the spectre as a one-two punch you don't want to get behind. They spot-kill your Angel? You can still land yourself 4 damage of burn if you want. They block Geist to try and get rid of it in a trade? Just like a Disturbed album that just can't match up to Believe, it's Indestructible. And if you get through clean? That is a double strike opportunity that you can take advantage of in certain spots, especially if you've got an Angel swinging for 5 off a Prowess boost from Ascendancy.

And finally, we're playing with just a little bit of a sweet engine here in Jeskai Ascendancy. We're not trying to use it to go off in the combo like other decks, but we are using it to give a little more free reign in throwing caution to the wind and going whole ham on offense, knowing that we have a buff and a card draw engine at our disposal. I'm still not wholly sold on it, but I'll be damned if I don't play with the toy to see how nuts it could be.

How to Play

When we get the shovels out, we are playing to win.

---

You'll notice there are only 4 Mana Leaks in the deck, and U/R Delver tends to run around 9, across those, Remands, and Spell Pierces, sometimes Negates.

With an optimal T1 Delver and T3 Geist, the Mana Leak mana for a T2 stop seems to fit rather well, though testing may prove otherwise.

I should probably have the Remands and Pierces in the board, or at least the Negates [EDIT - added Negates to sideboard, replaced Gut Shots because I don't know what I was thinking with those], but I'm trying to go counter-light and reaction heavy, with Vapor Snags, Lightning Bolts, and in the board, Lightning Helix and Path to Exile. It also frees up the fact that, if you have one of your on-curve plays, you can make it without needing to leave counter mana on the table.

The deck needs to remove bodies to clear its path, and while having answers for things before they land is nice, all of the answers I'm currently carrying, save for Path, have a common denominator: pain. Every little ping counts.

Filling the bin reactively, as well, helps fuel our Dig Through Time. I can't guarantee what you'll be digging for, exactly, but you don't want to pull the trigger unless you think you can snag a victory out of it. I'd be looking for a Geist and a Boros Charm first and foremost, but each situation can call for something different; you may want Bolts, you may want Ascendancy, you may want a sideboard answer like Vandalblast against Artifacts/Affinity, you may just want a G-Probe to look at their hand and make sure your play goes off to win. When you Dig, though, Dig to win.

Deck discussion for Jeskai Delver [Modern]

Here's a decklist I made that you may appreciate. I agree, something with teeth. With dig through time out, I wanted to play a control game that kept heavy pressure on.
