Deck Description

One of my friends was considering making a pair of Duel Decks as a Christmas present for another friend, so they had some decks they could play casually against one another, and not have to worry about resources being a factor. They asked for ideas, and I just went ahead and pitched Jor Kadeen vs Glissa.

Seems like they could be a fun match, and the color fight and Mirran v Phyrexian sides actually lend themselves to the Crusaders, Mirran and Phyrexian, finding their ways into the decks as well.

I tried to land some value in the decks to make them enticing, but also not super-busted, so you've got the Maelstrom Pulse, the Deathrite Shaman, and the couple of Lightning Helixes (Helices?) in there, while each deck is held to 6 rares and just a few more than 10 uncommons apiece.

If there are things I missed or suggestions, please feel free to drop them in the comments, and I'll take a look.

How to Play

Both decks love their artifacts, but play quite differently from one another.

Jor Kadeen's deck is quick on the offensive, and carries some resilient ways to keep Metalcraft online to make his strategy more potent, especially if Jor himself gets the chance to come online as an 8/4 to clean up shop. His goal is clear: use pure power and the burning might of Mirrodin to punish Glissa for her treachery.

Glissa, on the other hand, is your controlling entity, trying to slow the game down to her speed and focus on resource deprival, with many ways to eliminate both creatures and artifacts alike, to take the gas out of Jor's tank. Hers is the game of attrition, aiming to drag Jor down and teach him the deadly truth she found in the Phyrexian ideal.

Deck discussion for DD: Jor Kadeen vs Glissa

I'm gonna say this, but it's only because i'm confused. Why would you add Darksteel to a duel deck in which on of the decks is going to use artifact destruction...against a deck that uses metalcraft? It just seems to tilt the odds in Kadeen's favors way too much.

The thought behind those additions is because, aside from the Viridian Corrupter and Krosan Grip that must hit an artifact, the rest of the destruction is multifaceted. Putrefy hits creatures, Acidic Slime can hit lands, and Sylvok Replica helps keep Metalcraft off as a recyclable tool when paired with Glissa, unless the Jor Kadeen deck can hit 3 of the 4 Darksteel.

The 4 Darksteel pieces (1 Relic, 1 Plate, 2 Axes) are actually there as a way to balance the Glissa deck, which carries 9 sources to remove artifacts, and can easily gain control. Having such a foothold enables a dynamic back and forth between the two decks, as it's a low enough number to not have them show up in some games, but enough to show up with two-of or the rare three-of in others.
