Deck Description

When SoM came out, I was inspired to make an Infect/ Proliferate Deck. I think I have came up with a good combination of both. I believe equipping artifacts are pointless and slow. An infect deck should be fast and straight for the kills.

The only thing I think my deck would be weak if it were against a player with a lot of flying creatures but With Vines of Vastwood, my creatures would be protected from abilities and spells my opponent control, but add +4/+4 for one forest more...

I'm open to suggestions. Please RATE IT or COMMENT or if it's even possible...try to INSULT IT!!!

Deck discussion for The BEST, Fast, Infect with a whiff of Proliferate Deck

Nice deck you got there. I would but a couple of Thumming Birds and Tainted Strikes. Vampire's Bite is good too. But nice deck!

Sheck out mine Infect deck: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=109966
and Life deck: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=109682

I like the Vampire's Bite ideal. It does more damage than Virulent Swipe would. I don't know about the Thrumming Birds though. I tried to have them in my deck, but most of my opponents were killing them off.

I built a deck similar to this one, except Im running trinket mages to search for amulet of vigors, chalice's, and chimeric mass. I like chimeric mass because it adds some protection from "destroy target creature" or board wipes like judgement. I also run 3 nuerok invisomancer to give my chimeric mass unblockable, then I tainted strike for a good 5-8 poison counters. Its a fun color combination, and I hope to see something like this get tournament play.

I like the way this looks a lot. With blue splashed in at just the right amount. I think the only thing I notice with it is the Terramorphic expanse. It's actually way to slow to play in standard unless you play 5 colors, (not sure that anyone does anymore, not that they ever did). I also notice that Forests are the lowest land count in your deck (at 8 Forests, opposed to the possible 11 Black, and 9 Island) where as green actually takes up most of the mana symbols in your deck. I actually recommend switching out the Terramorphic expanse for Verdant Catacombs. this would allow you to tutor for a swamp so that Drowned Catacomb comes in untapped, or if you need a Forest, you can get one of those as well. It will also allow you to play out a turn or two faster. With, the Drowned catacombs, and darkslick shores, you aren't short blue mana at all. but I think your current way of obtaining green mana for your Birds of Paradise, is just that much too slow. Verdant catacombs would make a much better slot choice for Terramorphic Expanse.

Good catch. I figured terramorphic was a good way to get green mana... i only need just a couple to get my combos on.. but the verdant catacombs would be better. after all, i'm going for infect so ten poison counters, i win.. forget life points.

thanks

Sorry, a few more things, Trade Giant Growth for Groundswell, with 24 land, you will most likely be able to drop one whenever you need too, and Untamed Might, isn't mana efficient for this deck. a vines of vastwood, or Groundswell are much better slot choices in my opinion.

Actually I used to have Groundswell in the deck, but I traded it for the Vines of Vastwood. The protection from Vines is great against Lightning Bolts and other burn cards. And if I ever want to add 4/4 for another green mana, it would make it that much better.

This deck looks a lot like mine except I use distortion strike instead of Flight Spellbomb. Check my deck out: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=109504

Am I the only person who thinks that proliferate and infect have no place together? Don't get me wrong, this is a decent deck, but just think of how much faster it'd be without proliferate dragging it to a halt like a ball-and-chain around the ankle.

sorry for ranting. Your deck is nice in all honesty, I just have some strong opinions =]

Oh no worries.. .when I first started off with Infect decks, I thought proliferate was a waste of time too... I still believe Contagion Engine and Clasp are a waste of time and Thrumming Birds for that matter. The proliferate cards I have now, Steady Progress is great to draw card while causing a poison counter. Casting 3 Steady Progress cards is like drawing three cards while doing 3 poison counters... 3/10.. that's 30% closer to winning the game.

Yeah I also think proliferate makes it go much longer. unblockables or buffs makes it makes faster.

Exactly. And with at least two ways to win on turn 2 in standard (At least that I can think of at the moment), trying to be taken seriously with a vast majority of proliferate-using decks is not going to be an easy task. I'm not bashing this deck or proliferate, I just think proliferate is going to show its power later and not now.

The only way I can see proliferate being great if MtG released cards that could boost proliferate in the counters of two or even three. Imagine proliferate on planeswalkers then... Nissa Revane would rise a little more than being the worse planeswalker of them all.

Yes Yes.. proliferate is not strong now, but I can't tell you how many times I have played with an Infect deck only. I've played it to where, if your opponent can hold you off from making kills by Turn 6, you lose your fast striking edge. It builds enough mana for the other opponent to actually cast 5 or 6 mana spells and creatures. Imagine against a burn deck... your opponent could easily Galvanic blast or lightning bolt your army away... A splash of proliferate is just what infect needs to get those few extra poison counters, until (1) you get the cards your need or (2) kill your opponent when his army gets too strong.
