This is a version of my old deck that is better in my opinion, still very fun to play and i tested it against my friend's Tron deck the today, and we went 3-3. This deck runs mainly vampires from the zendikar block and is pretty similar to my other deck but i made a couple removal changes and some creature swaps. I'm 14 right now, with much to learn, so I'm open to any and all suggestions for this deck.
Firstly, i cut some of the higher cost creatures in the other deck, like Kalitas and the Butcher. I had completely forgotten about Vampire Nighthawk in my other version, so those were cut for him. I also changed from Dismember to Urge to Feed, because although i can play Dismember for only one mana, Urge to Feed also buffs up my vampires, allowing me to do even more damage.
For the Vampire Lacerator, I run him because it allows me to put a threat on the field turn one, as most creatures played on turn one (if any) are 1/1s. I don't care if i lose a life every turn you're not at 10, because it usually isn't that long before you are at 10. I've gotten told to run Guul Draz Vampire instead though, and i think either one is a viable option.
Guul Draz Assassin allows me to do something turn 2 if i don't have anything to play, and if need be, gives me a permanent source of removal if the game goes for too long or if i didn't have any removal in hand.
Bloodghast is a phenomenal card in my opinion. If you come against discard, discard Bloodghast, removal makes them hesitant to waste a lightning bolt on him, and when they do, he just comes back. Bloodghast brings me to my first strategy, which is always play land after you swing, so he's ready next turn if he dies. He also is fuel for Kalastria Highborn and Viscera Seer in the sideboard.
Gatekeeper is just a great card, and even if you have 2 mana open and no other 2-drops in your hand, just hold onto him and use him when you can pay one and make them sacrifice something.
Vampire Hexmage is used against Tron and in specific, Tezzeret and Lux Cannon. But she's also good against all planeswalkers, and even if you don't use her, she's a 2/1 first strike vampire, that's good enough for me.
Nighthawk is just a good card. 1BB for a 2/3 deathtouch flying lifelink. That's pretty good.
Vampire Nocturnus is another card that is just a 'Why not?' card. Infact, he's kind of like the backbone for the entire deck. The only issue that arises is that swamps aren't black, but +2/+1 and flying is great, even if it's happening under 66% of the time.
Malakir Bloodwitch is usually the last card i play. By then you should have at least 4 guys out, then plus her. She has good card value for her abilities, although some people tell me she should be sideboard because she has protection from white. I've considered it, but i still run her, because she's good turn 5 and she's still good turn 25.
Drana gives me extra removal, but she's optional as well, and so is the Bloodlord of Vaasgoth.
As far as sideboard, i run Go for the Throat against black decks, and Doom Blade against Tron and artifacts. I tried changing my deck and running the Kalastria Highborn in place of the Vampire Hexmage and the Viscera Seer instead of the Guul Draz Assassin and 2 of the Vampire Lacerators. On second thought, i think I'd run another Bloodghast instead of Kalitas. Even better, the Viscera Seer lets you put black cards on top when you have the Nocturnus out.
Once again guys, thanks for reading this. I'm open to all suggestions and thoughts, so please leave a comment below, and I'll read them and get back to you soon. Thank You!
